Frequently Asked Questions

Travel Insurance is compulsory on all KE Adventure holidays and is a condition of booking with KE. When selecting a travel insurance policy we require that at a minimum you are covered for the cost of emergency evacuation (by helicopter if necessary), medical expenses and repatriation. The policy must also cover personal liability, cancellation, curtailment, and loss of luggage and personal effects.

When should I take out insurance for my trip?

To protect your holiday deposit, we recommend that you take out your travel insurance as soon as you have booked your place on a holiday with us, and you have confirmed your dates of travel.

I am travelling a few times this year. Can I get Annual cover?

If you travel more than once a year then it is worth considering annual or multi-trip insurance. This will save you time overall and money. It can also be cheaper to purchase a joint policy with your partner / spouse / family. Campbell Irvine offer a multi-trip or annual insurance policy.

We are booking a family trip with you. Can I get cover for the whole family?

For families travelling together a special premium applies based on two and a half times the standard rate. This provides cover for two adults under 66 years and up to four children aged 21 years or less and in full time education. Alternatively if you travel more than once in a year with your family, you may want to consider the Annual Multi Trip policy.

I am not a UK resident. Can I get insurance through Campbell Irvine?

Campbell Irvine has chosen to work with IMG Europe Ltd to provide travel insurance for individuals resident anywhere in the world outside of the UK. The policy is arranged by the International Medical Group and underwritten by Sirius International Insurance Corporation (a Mountains Re Company). Cover can be extended to include a large number of sporting activities and high value holidays. Please note that the policy does not offer Cancellation cover.

If you are a non-UK resident and would like a quote or to download a summary of the policy please click here.

I am over 65. Can I get insurance with Campbell Irvine?

If you are aged between 66 and 69 at the time of travel, Campbell Irvine will insure you but the premium for the holiday is doubled. If you are travelling as a couple but just one of you is aged between 66 and 69 at the time of travel, it is important that you obtain your insurance seperately, otherwise you will be quoted a combined premium based on the age of the oldest person. If you are aged 70 or over, you may still be able to obtain insurance for your trip from Campbell Irvine but in this case you must contact them direct by telephone to discuss your situation.

What if I have a medical condition?

Be honest and inform your insurer of any pre-existing medical conditions. If, for example, you fail to tell your insurer that you have epilepsy and then have an attack which results in you needing treatment, it is very unlikely that you will be covered.

Does Campbell Irvine insurance cover KE 'climbing' trips?

Yes, Campbell Irvine travel insurance covers all KE trips, including those which involve mountaineering or are designated as 'Climb'. If you have an annual policy and intend to take part in mountaineering or climbing independently of KE, you should check your cover for these activities directly with Campbell Irvine.

Will my valuable items be covered?

Make sure your policy covers you realistically for loss of any valuable items. Do you really need these items on the trip? If the additional expense to cover them is too expensive consider leaving them at home.

Do I need to confirm my Insurance details to KE before I travel?

Once you have arranged your travel insurance you will need to advise us of your policy details. These will be passed onto your tour guide and our local agents in case of any emergencies. Please log into your ‘My KE’ Account to enter your Insurance details in the ‘Traveller details’ section for your booking. You will need to confirm the following: • Name of Insurance Provider • Policy Number • General contact number for Insurance provider • Worldwide Assistance contact number.

Do I need to carry a copy of my insurance policy with me on the trip?

We do also ask that you take a copy of your Insurance Policy with you on your trip. Your insurance policy should provide the following information: • Your insurance documentation confirming that you are the named policyholder. • Cover must be valid for the entire duration of your trip. • You must be covered for Medical Expenses and Medical Emergency Repatriation in the event of illness or injury (including the deterioration of known medical conditions). • Your policy must cover you fully for all activities you are planning on taking part in on your holiday (e.g. trekking at altitude). • Your insurance documentation must show the Insurer’s 24-hour Medical Emergency contact telephone number.

Can I arrange my insurance through an alternative provider?

We recommend Campbell Irvine as they provide suitable insurance cover designed specifically for our style of holidays. You can of course choose an alternative insurance provider but you must ensure that the company you choose covers you for the eventualities stated in our first FAQ, and for all the activities that you are participating in during your trip. This includes any extensions or additional activities that you book outside of the main itinerary.

Will I be covered by my credit card?

The travel insurance cover automatically provided with credit card purchases does not normally provide adequate cover as standard. Travel insurance policies ‘purchased’ through your credit card or bank account or provided through platinum account holders will not always cover you adequately for ‘adventure’ travel style holidays. We advise that you check your policy with your bank to check that you are adequately insured and provide them with a copy of the trip itinerary if you are at all unsure.

I have a Global Health Insurance Card. Does this cover me?

No. Residents of the United Kingdom can apply for a Global Health Insurance Card. This may cover the cost of some medical treatment in countries participating in the scheme. However it will not cover the cost of repatriation to the UK after an accident or medical emergency. You will still need to take out comprehensive travel insurance for your holiday.
