Immortalised in Louis de Bernieres' novel "Captain Corelli’s Mandolin," Kefalonia's rugged landscapes, the majestic Mount Ainos, and diverse route options make it a captivating destination for a week of cycling, featuring stays in Mousata, Agia Efimia, and concluding in the lively capital, Argostoli. Nestled in the countryside just 10km from the southwestern tip of Portugal, our charming villa serves as a centre for exploration within the SouthWest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park—an area renowned for its pristine European coastline. Throughout the week, our hosts lead us in a variety of activities, from kayaking down the river to seaside rock climbing, beach outings, and leisurely bike rides. The extensive grounds of the accommodation offer additional delights, including archery, table tennis, a zip line, kayaking on the lake (dependent on water levels), a vegetable farm, and shaded hammocks perfect for relaxation. Concluding the week, there's an optional boat ride to Cabo de San Vincente for a chance to spot dolphins, witness breathtaking sunsets, and enjoy a day of surfing with full instruction. Evenings are filled with delightful home-cooked meals using ingredients from the garden, complemented by fireside storytelling and conversations under the stars with a glass of wine.

The Markha Valley Trek

Nestled in the remote north-western corner of India, Ladakh, part of the Himalayan region, is an inspiring destination for trekking enthusiasts. This remarkable trek unfolds through a stunning high valley, adorned with green irrigated fields and the vibrant red hues of monks' robes in the villages and monasteries along the route. After acclimatizing in Leh and exploring monasteries, including a jeep ride to Khardung La, the journey ventures into the Markha Valley, crossing the Ganda La to Skiu. Amid a timeless landscape, the trek reaches its pinnacle at 4860 meters on the Nimaling Plain, offering encounters with elusive snow leopards and impressive lammergeiers. The return journey through Kongmaru La provides breathtaking views of Kang Yatze and the peaks along the Tibetan border, providing a captivating taste of Ladakh's magical landscapes. In June, Rwanda and Uganda offer enchanting wildlife experiences amidst lush landscapes, making it an ideal time for gorilla tracking, game drives, and encounters with diverse fauna in their pristine national parks. Embark on an extraordinary wildlife safari spanning these two incredible nations, focusing on the endangered Mountain Gorillas and the diverse wildlife of these captivating countries. Begin with a 'Rhino Walk' at the Ziwa Sanctuary to encounter these majestic giants. The compact massif of Peru's Cordillera Huayhuash, renowned for its dramatic mountain scenery, provides the perfect backdrop for this classic high-level trekking adventure. Over 16 epic days, we navigate a stunning high-level trail, making an improbable circuit around this mountain group and experiencing trekking on a Himalayan scale. Abundant in mineral wealth, the Huayhuash area sees new mining roads each year, but with our local knowledge and contacts built over 14 years, we adapt the flexible itinerary to avoid these roads, ensuring an undisturbed trekking experience. This rewarding challenge for regular hillwalkers takes us across high passes, into remote valleys, and offers breathtaking views of Peru's highest peaks, including Yerupaja (6634m) and Huascaran (6768m). Exploring Siula Grande, made famous by Joe Simpson's 'Touching the Void,' and having the option to walk the ridge of Cerro Jyamy (5200m) towards the end of the trek, provide unique highlights. With superb campsites beside glacial lakes and the delightful company of our Quechua crew, this trip guarantees a fantastic South American experience. In June, embarking on the Cordillera Huayhuash Circuit offers an awe-inspiring trekking adventure amidst Peru's dramatic mountain scenery.
