Jo's Top 5 things to do in Jordan

KE's Head of Product Jo Rolls shares with us her 'Top 5 things to do in Jordan.

"During my years, I've been lucky enough to have been on many Jordan trips, Jo Rollsboth on personal holidays and leading groups. A small, but perfectly formed, country, it really is a true treasure of the Middle East. Jordan offers so much for all types of traveller - culture, history, yummy food, world class hiking, great biking, superb snorkelling and the warmest of welcomes. Whether you want to soak away your cares in the Dead Sea - and let's face it, who doesn't want to recreate the iconic floating reading a newspaper photograph - or whether you want to lose yourself in the rock cut tombs and palaces of the Rose Red City of Petra, Jordan is a country that you should take time to visit once, twice, as many times as you can - I guarantee you will find something new and interesting on each visit."

Take a look at her top 5 things to do in Jordan...

Rock Strewn houses

1) Go beyond the realms of Indiana Jones.

So many people only go as far as walking through the siq at Petra to the, famously over photographed, Treasury. A stunning building for sure, but go beyond this and you will discover an entire Nabatean city, an intricate, rock cut realm of houses, palaces, tombs and places of worship that you could spend days exploring. Get yourself some comfy footwear and explore the wonderful landscapes and architecture beyond the facade of the Treasury.

Camel Jordan 2

 2) Ride a camel in Wadi Rum.

If you're going to ride a camel anywhere, Wadi Rum is the place to do it. Don your keffiyah (checked scarf), saddle up and ride these magnificently adapted desert animals across the stunning landscape of the Wadi - channelling your inner Lawrence of Arabia as you go!

 Family jordan3) Take the family.

Jordan is such a wonderfully family friendly country, children are welcomed everywhere and there's so much for them to see, explore and do. Get messy covering yourself in mud at the Dead Sea, snorkel with the bright and colourful reef fish off the coast at Aqaba or bring history to life in the Roman city at Jerash - build memories with your family in this fantastic country.

Pete Jordan

4) Have a spot of "me time"

The healing waters and softening mud of the Dead Sea are wonderful for the skin and couple that with a hammam in Wadi Musa and you'll come home feeling ten years younger!

bike jordan5) Get on your bike and ride.

Being a compact country it is possible to cover the length of Jordan on a bike in just over a week. On route you'll meet locals, see the sights and generally get so much closer to the nation than if you're on a bus. If two wheels aren't your thing there are multiple hiking trails to take you truly into the heart of this amazing country.

However you might chose to see Jordan, just make sure you do choose to see it! A wonderful country that you won't forget in a hurry.
