A delightful family adventure with all the winter sports and Lapland experiences
Winter Wonderland Arctic Family Adventure

We loved Camp Ripan, and throughly enjoyed KE's programme of activities. The hotel provided sledges, and all around the outskirts are lit marked trails, so in any spare time we could still have fun in the snow. The meals were excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful, the cabins were comfortable. The guides were genuine and enthusiastic, and we particularly enjoyed the husky sled ride and the snow-shoeing. To conclude, a great way for a family to sample the delights of the frozen north!

Fantastic challenging trekking break.
Mount Toubkal in Winter

Excellent week spent in the Atlas Mountains. Looked after by 2 local guides who were professional, safe and very approachable. Group size was just right. Food was a nice surprise, much better than I expected and I was never left feeling hungry. All in all a great experience, and good value for money too. Looking forward to receiving the KE brochure through the post and planning my next adventure.

Spanish sunshine, beautiful mountains and amazing food.
Secret Sierras of the Costa Blanca
I've done many KE trips - and this is one of my favourites - I love it so much I have done it twice! The walking is great - these are "proper" walks - 7 or 8 hours a day with plenty of ascent and descent and distance. Really nice rocky paths and ridges & stunning views. The food is absolutely delicious - lots of local spanish dinners, locally made olive oil (we could visit the factory and see it being made). Post-walk coffee & cake always available. And on the free day we were treated to a paella-making lesson - yum! We got to stay in fancy hotels - most of the many other KE trips I have done involved camping, so it was lovely to get to sleep in a comfy bed with an ensuite bathroom for a change! Packing for this trip was a joy - no camping stuff! no wet wipes! not even any emergency loo roll! Instead I went crazy and packed different clothes for the evening (nice not to eat dinner in thermals) and even ... a hairdryer!! José our guide was fantastic. Full of knowledge and passion for the area and all things spanish. And he provided great "munchies" to help us up some of the climbs... Does life get any better than sitting on top of a mountain in December, in the sun, and eating a tortilla sandwich? (although for others in our group, a highlight was having the Trek Factory cycling team staying in the same hotel and sharing a bread-knife with Fabian Cancellara at breakfast...) Tips for future travellers? Just do it - this holiday is an easy flight from the UK & really good value. So if you want a week in the sunshine (almost guaranteed...) with 5 days of full-on wonderful walking and as much paella as you can eat, go for it!

An epic undertaking with fine guides, amazing huts, lovely hotels....and summits
Classic Haute Route
The guides told us this is the most difficult trek KE offers in the Alps. It required determined effort to cover the distance and 30,000 feet of elevation gain and loss. Some of the trails are very steep and the downhill speed is hard on the knees. The summits offer views of this unbelievable set of mountains. Kathy the lead glacier guide is a low key talented skilled caring leader with a fine sense of humour. I hope to engage her again in 2016. Dave was also excellent ever watchful and experien ced and highly skilled glacier and rock climber. I would give them both 5 stars and will follow them on other trips. If you can ski, that would be the best and a preferable way to complete the Haute Route.

A fantastic experience!
Mount Toubkal in Winter
After just returning from the Winter Toubkal trek I find myself pining for the mountains once again. This was a great trip with some fantastic views that had to be earned with the walking! The personal highlight for me was getting to use crampons and ice axe for the first time on some quite steep slopes. These worked amazingly and now really want to get some for UK winter walking! The guides were amazing, providing a considerate pace for our group, checking we were OK and instilling us with fait h. And off the mountains they were just as considerate, ensuring we were well looked after with regular supply of Moroccan mint tea and plentiful meals (often too much!). The guides were also happy to be flexible with the plans to meet what the group wanted. A lovely impromptu historical guide to morocco was given one evening to the group that we all found very informative and educational. This was a great trip all round and a perfect introduction to winter trekking. As a bonus you also get to experience a couple of nights in Marrakech, which although wasn't what I went for, turned out to be fascinating. I would recommend this trip to friends. Thanks!

Pura Vida
Costa Rica Walks and Wildlife
What an excellent holiday which delivered walks and wildlife galore. Highlights included swimming and snorkeling in the warm Pacific whilst staying at 'Poor Man's Paradise', and in natural waterfall pools along the way. Also seeing sloths, agouti, humming birds and the resplendent quetzel. Our group leader, Joe, was excellent -inspiring, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and keen to show us his country. I must also mention our driver, Carlos, who kept smiling no matter how wet and smelly we made his minibus! Thank you and Pura Vida both.

A new adventure
Costa Rica Walks and Wildlife

This was an excellent trip with good company and a first class leader in Joe Bernini. He was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable and did all he could to make the holiday a success apart from lingering over lunch and accordingly starting a walk at 5pm which was largely undertaken in darkness and pouring rain. I gave him my views and have forgiven him! We saw the quetzal (incredibly beautiful and patient with its birders) but no jaguars or tapirs.

Tabletop Mountains, Waterfalls and Rainbows!
Mount Roraima and Angel Falls
I had no expectations when booking this trip and (if I'm honest) hadn't really researched Venezuela or this trip much! This trip was a real surprise and was so enjoyable. It felt a bit like an undiscovered land and certainly off the main tourist trails. If you enjoy swimming in rivers and at the bottom of waterfalls this trip will be right up your alley. Although it states that swimwear is 'optional' on the trip list, we all commented that it was nigh on essential and you would definitely miss o ut without it! I don't think this trip runs very often (the guide said it hadn't run since the previous year) so there were a few deviations off the itinerary (for example a cancelled internal flight meant we had to spend an extra 2 hours on road of what was already scheduled as a 6 hour bus journey) but you soon get used to the relaxed attitude of the Venezuelans and can't help but just go with it. During the trip you really get a sense of some of the problems Venezuela has at the moment (both economically and socially) and I learnt much more about the country than I ever imagined. Roger, our guide, was great and clearly passionate about his country. Angel Falls and Mount Roraima were of course the highlights and exceeded all expectations but there is certainly more to Venezuela than that and I couldn't recommend this trip highly enough for all round experiences, activities and sights. Fantastic!

A good winter walking trek
Mount Toubkal in Winter
The holiday arrangement worked fine from a logistical point of view. Transport from and to airport, hotel, transport to and from Imlil. etc. The guides, Lahoussain and Omar did their work, but most of the time they were quite self centered in their behaviour (I'll come back to this). The walk is straight forward and well proven so I just say "check" here. We had good weather and that improve over all satisfaction. Accommodation worked well, even though the guides prepared us for the "worst" wrt to Toubcal refuge. It turned out to be better than expected (not so many people there). I had requested vegetarian food. The guides seemed unaware and improvised in last minute. That was not satisfactory. Further, the food I got was often what the others had, minus meat (no extra effort made to serve me equal standard). Well, no big issue in the end (may be because I am used to it). What I think you should pay attention to is the behaviour of the guides. They, most of the time, preferred to walk together in the front talking to each other. One team member was unsure if he could make it to the top of Mt Toubkal and decided to turn around. No extra motivation or effort was wade from the guides. He could have made it if one guide had deiced to walk with him at the back. (next day he made up to the pass with demanding snow walking using crampons). Wrt use of crampons and ice axe, no extra instruction was made. There were a couple of team members that had not used this before and we (the team members had to share our experience and provide information). The guides effort was restricted to help us fit the crampons to the boots. There were a couple of situations were we should pay extra attention to safety. Here the guides rushed in front and paid no extra attention to the team members.

Vegetarianism is a difficult concept for most Moroccans, but we always try to ensure there are suitable alternatives to meat that satisfy taste as well as nutritional requirements. We are sorry also that you felt the guides could have been more encouraging. Both Lahouceine and Omar are qualified mountain guides and both attended our regular leaders' winter training course earlier this year, which was led by French IFMGA-UIAGM Guide, Christian Roux. There is always room for improvement and your comments will be used in a constructive way during the next Moroccan guides training course.

Fantastic combined trekking and cultural experience
Ethiopia, Simien Mountains Trek & Lalibela
This was an amazing holiday combining 7 days carefully phased trekking culminating in the ascent of Ras Dashen. The holiday was bookended with cultural experiences in Addis Ababa, Gondor and Lalibella. The guides Philemon and Dereje were excellent, attentive and knowledgeable. Every need in our group was catered for and individual attention provided. I cannot recommend this holiday enough. The food was excellent throughout and the whole trekking support team were kind, attentive and happy. A par ticular highlight, though there were many, was the ascent of Ras Deshen which commenced at 3.30 am in bright moonlight under starry skies. Overall the scenery is stunning and the wildlife a joy. What a country. What remarkable people.

Mostly Excellent
Edge of the Sahara Trek
Hi there, The trip overall was of a high quality, the quality of the food was a particular highlight, vast quantities of deliciousness prepared or cooked by the superb chef in camp, or at the lunch rest spot. The guide himself was good overall, though he did have a tendency to end up ahead of the group when trekking, which was tough on morale when feeling tired and baked, and he wasn't particularly chatty during the day, only becoming sociable in the evenings. It was often hard to know what was happening, what the plan for the day was, how close we were to camp, etc. These issues could be easily overcome, and was the only issue with an otherwise excellent trip.

Everything we expected and more

We went Costa Rica expecting to see rainforest and wildlife. We were not disappointed. Joe Bernini is an excellent guide, his knowledge, enthusiasm and leadership is a model for others. We would strongly recommend this trip. Tim & Val Greenwood

Brilliant mix of culture and interaction with the people and their country
Temples and Trails of Burma
Stunning cultural experience with all the golden Pagodas and Buddhas . Tun Tun was an excellent guide who knew a lot about his country and birds . The hotels were all good to excellent and the beach extension bungalow wonderful , although food quite expensive at Aureum Palace and note there is a long drive to get there - but interesting countryside en route . Trek through agricultural land was fascinating although Monastery accommodation was very basic - perhaps take a carry-mat . Full board w as perhaps too much food for us - would have preferred lighter lunches. Lovely people complimented a brilliant trip with so much to see and do .

Fantastic experience, loved every minute.
Cycle Saigon to Hanoi - Vietnam South to North
If you are a cyclist and have the time and the money to do this trip then DO IT! My husband and I had a brilliant time. Viet Nam was great, the guides were knowledgeable and helpful, the people we met along the way were lovely and the food was delicious and plentiful. The other people on the trip were fun and we now have some very special memories of our holiday. We spent 23 million Dong between us which makes me laugh but is in reality a very reasonable amount (approx £700) considering the amo unt of beer we consumed, the souvenirs we bought along the way and the tipping of the guides and drivers. Highlights for us were the madness of cycling in scooter traffic, having made to measure clothing tailored in Hoi An, visiting temples and palaces, learning about the history and then food, food food! Tips: If you do this trip I would pack light to have room for souvenirs and all the hotels did laundry very cheaply along the way. Also, we packed inner tubes etc as per the KE equipment list but none of it was needed - the company provided back up at all times and all spares. (New bikes were used for half the trip and were 29ers so the 26" tubes we took would be no use anyway). This was our first trip with KE and we would definitely book with them again. Everything was very well organised and considering everything that was included in the price we felt it was value for money.

Tired But Very Happy
Saigon to Bangkok - Mekong Explorer
This was my 5th adventure trip with KE and like the others, excellent. Vietnam and Cambodia were excellent with all the details worked out by our excellent guides (Ho, Sokun, Nin). We just had to focus our attention on having an adventure while the guides organized everything. Cambodia was especially poignant as both our Cambodian guides lost many close family members by the Khmer Rouge atrocities. Getting this perspective was very humbling. Nin was the best guide ever and one of my highlights w as when he invited us in the evening to attend a performance of the Cambodian Circus, an acrobatic troupe of kids that he volunteers teaching. It was a magical evening. The food was great, although I got in the habit of ordering cashew chicken a few times too many. The other travelers were awesome, despite all of them being British (ha ha ha). No sickness of anyone in our group. The only downside is that the Thailand guide we had for the last couple of days was very poor and basically useless. But the Thailand portion of this trip is basically an afterthought after the many fantastic days in Vietnam and Cambodia.

.. and now for something completely different!
Reunion Island Paradise
Reunion is like nowhere else I've been - but with echoes of so many other places. The trekking is steep, and although the paths are well marked, they varied from flights of irregular steps through boulder fields to mudslides. However, don't be put off! The variety of terrain, vegetation and the 'jizz' of the place more than make up for the occasional discomfort! We were unlucky that the Piton de la Fournaise chose to repel us, but sunrise on the Piton des Neiges was stunning! The food was absolu tely excellent everywhere - including the communal meals in the mountain huts, washed down with a glass of the local 'dodo' or a tot of rum punch! For me, the vegetation was one of the big plus points, ranging from rain forest complete with tree ferns through montane scrub to bare volcanic slopes, but all fascinating. And at the end there's a chance to relax on the shore and remind yourself why half a day on the beach is very nice but quite enough for one holiday! When we were there (October) it was often hot and sunny first thing, but clouding over mid-morning to a pleasant walking temperature and generally brightening again later. And expect rain (though it's quite warm!)

A Triple South East Asian Delight
Saigon to Bangkok - Mekong Explorer
We had a fantastic time on this trip and certainly couldn't have done it independently in such a short space of time. Three countries, loads of sights, many experiences and lots of wonderful people. This was my first organised tour and I was somewhat apprehensive before we went having done all my travelling independently previously. Luckily we were well looked after by our three guides, had some great travelling companions and were able to fit so much in that I wouldn't rule out further organis ed trips. Probably with KE too! Most of the accommodation was way above what I was expecting and the provided food was almost always excellent. When meals weren't provided we were steered to 'safe' places because you wouldn't want a jippy belly on this jam-packed trip. Even I managed to stay free of the dreaded Delhi belly so the guides must have done their job well in that respect as well. All our guides were fantastic but Nin stood out in particular. Full of enthusiasm and information with an eye for where to get the best photographs we will be keeping in touch with him for sure. The start of our holiday was ruined by Qatar Airways but everyone at KE looked after us and made sure we were still collected from the airport despite KE getting us there 22 hours late....and without our luggage.... Our guide then hassled them to get our luggage to us as soon as possible despite us being many miles from the airport by then. After that everything was fantastic; from bike rides in the Mekong Delta to getting up to watch the sunrise over Angkor Wat it was an unforgettable holiday and I'd highly recommend it.

A varied holiday with biking through Cambodian villages and temples.
Backroads of Cambodia Bike
Great biking holiday. The cycling can be a bit more demanding than the grade 2 suggests due to the heat and the possible pace of the group although the back up team always are on hand to provide the option of a lift in the support vehicle. A great itinerary providing a variety of experiences of temples, villages and landscapes including some river trips with fascinating floating villages. An excellent local guide worked very hard to look after the group. Some accommodation was a bit unsatisfacto ry but our guide was anxious to receive our feedback and clearly looking to explore future improvements.

Nepal is fabulous.
Annapurna Sanctuary and Poon Hill Trek
We've just come back from this trek and it was fantastic. We went to Nepal 16 years ago, and now can't think why we left it so long before returning. The country is poor, still recovering from a devastating earthquake, coping with fuel shortages as a result of the Indian blockade, but still smiling. We've been on treks in higher, more remote areas but never one with such varied landscapes; villages and terraces, bamboo forests, then the spectacular rock and snow of the Sanctuary itself. We've al ways been lucky with our trek crew, but never had one quite like this; Dawa, Januk, Raju, Chandra, Tshering, and Mangale were efficient, helpful and just lovely. We've always enjoyed camping and were a bit uncertain about lodges, but they were great; very simple but really clean and with 'comfort toilets'! (Those of us who were ill throughout a 15 day trek on the Baltoro glacier and thought we'd never trek again, are allowed to develop an obsession with toilets.) If you're about to go on this trek - advice. It is very cold high up. Because of the fuel shortage there is no heating in the lodges. We were fine with really warm down jackets and sleeping bags, but if you don't have them, beg, borrow or steal them. (Actually, if it's a matter of stealing you may be better hiring them from KE!) Also, take metal drinks bottles then you can use them as hot water bottles. If you're thinking about going on this trek - advice. Nepal is 'open for business'. Tourism is 60% down this year. They need our money. Go!
