1. How long does it take to trek the Inca Trail?

With KE, on our classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu trek, you’ll complete the legendary Inca Trail over 5 days and 4 nights, rather than the standard 4-day trek offered by many other operators. Why take longer? Two key reasons:

• Better acclimatisation: The altitude can be intense and this extended itinerary gives your body the best chance to adjust comfortably.

• A more immersive experience: Our slightly longer route means you'll avoid the crowds. While most groups stick to the same tight schedule and often camp at overcrowded sites, our itinerary is designed to offer a more peaceful, personal journey. Imagine having this world-famous trail almost to yourself because, in many moments, you will.

The Inca Trail winds through some of the most breathtaking scenery and archaeological wonders on Earth, so why rush it?

2. Where do you camp on the Inca Trail?

Thanks to our extended itinerary, you’ll stay at quieter, less crowded campsites, offering a far more tranquil experience. Enjoy the serenity of the Andes without the buzz of dozens of other groups around you.

3. What are the facilities like on the trail?

On the first night of your Inca Trail trek, you’ll stay at our partner’s own campsite which is complete with the rare luxury of a hot shower. Throughout the trek, we bring our own private bathroom facilities, so you won’t need to rely on the communal ones used by all other trekkers. It’s a small touch that makes a big difference in comfort!

Yes - and KE takes care of that too. Your trek includes two visits to Machu Picchu, a rare and valuable part of our itinerary that sets us apart from many other operators.

8. How much time do you get to spend at Machu Picchu?

With KE, you get two separate opportunities to visit Machu Picchu:

First, you’ll arrive at the iconic Sun Gate in the afternoon, when the clouds have likely lifted and the view is at its very best. This magical moment offers your first glimpse of the lost city.

That evening, you’ll stay nearby and return the next morning for a fully guided tour of the entire site. This second visit is included in your package and something that many other operators don’t provide.

9. Is this a sustainable trek?

Absolutely. Our partners who run this trek are a proud B Corp-certified company, meaning they are committed to responsible tourism. Sustainability, waste management and low-impact travel are woven into every aspect of the trip.

10. How are the guides and porters treated on the Inca Trail?

Our commitment extends to the incredible people who make your trek possible. The local guides and porters are treated with the utmost respect and care - in fact, our porters are among the highest-paid on the trail. We believe in ethical tourism and that means looking after our team as much as our travellers.

Ready to take the trip of a lifetime? With KE, you’ll trek the Inca Trail the way it was meant to be experienced: with care, time and unforgettable moments around every corner.
