WALK THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO ON A SELF-GUIDED ADVENTURE

Taking on a self-guided adventure on your own may sound intimidating, but the benefits of going for it are huge - set a pace which works for just you, stop wherever and whenever you want and feel free to be whisked away by whatever takes your fancy. Whilst you can go solo on any of our self-guided adventures and enjoy the space travelling completely alone can offer, we especially recommend walking the Camino Way. The Camino is a true journey, a pilgrimage completed by many for religious purposes but also by many more seeking to complete the route for their own reasons. Walking this iconic route is famous not just for its beautiful scenes of rural countryside but also the people you come across and the stories you hear as you walk. Going solo is great here as it lends itself to meeting fascinating people, often much more than when you travel in a group or couple. Choose from routes in Portugal and Spain to find the journey that’s right for you.

WALKING AND SAFARI HOLIDAY IN SOUTH AFRICA

Walking as a solo traveller in South Africa can be a daunting prospect, so this unique holiday which takes place in some of the world’s finest game reserves and national parks of Northern South Africa and the Kingdom of Swaziland / eSwatini, should be on anyone’s short-list.  The focus is on walking but the trip includes some game drives too to ensure you’ll see the full spectacle of the Africa wildlife. You’ll walk in the Blyde River Canyon before a Big 5 walking safari and game drive in Kruger National Park – a gem of South Africa and home to elephant, lion, giraffe, zebra, many species of antelope as well as birds and small animals such as warthogs. Crossing the border to the Kingdom of Swaziland / eSwatini, you’ll explore the remote mountainous reserve of Malalotja. Continuing on we visit Hluhluwe and the surrounding nature reserve in Zululand for game drives and a unique walking safari. On the way to the Drakensberg, we visit the Zululand Battlefield and the finale will be walking in the Drakensberg Mountains showing off some of the most dramatic and breath-taking scenery in South Africa.

Our easier walking trip allows you to explore the vastness of Wadi Rum, fall asleep under the desert sky at a Bedouin camp, climb the highest peak in Jordan – Jebel Um Adaami (1832m) and spend a full day exploring the archaeological jewel of Petra. WILD TUSCANY

A lovely setting for solo travellers can be a centre-based walking holiday, giving you the chance to relax each night at the same base with new friends made during the week – especially if the relaxation time includes beautiful Tuscan food and wine. CHOMOLHARI BASE CAMP AND THE BONTE LA

You can just relax and enjoy this spectacular circuit trek in the comfort and safety of your fully guided group.

TREK THE FANN MOUNTAINS IN TAJIKISTAN AND EXPLORE SILK ROAD CITIES IN UZBEKISTAN

Sounds exciting doesn’t it? It’s a fact that if you choose an adventure in Central Asia, most people you know won’t have been - and might not even have heard of either of these two countries. One of the world’s best ranges to go for an off-the-beaten-track trek, the fact that the Fann Mountains remain little-visited mean you can expect untouched mountain scenes, pristine wild camping sites between crystal-clear lakes and genuine encounters with local people who see very few tourists. With routes and trails formed by shepherd trods and an undeveloped trekking infrastructure, it's a place you’ll want a local guide to show you the ways. Go solo and join one of our groups on your own to experience a still undiscovered range for yourself, and then top it all off with an exploration of the unique architectural wonders found in Uzbekistan’s mosaic-patterned cities.

We’ve taken the four highest peaks in four Balkan countries (because honestly, how many people can say they’ve climbed them?) and combined them into one epic mountain journey. Not just about the summits, you can expect dramatic mountain scenery, remote, wild landscapes and to experience a part of the world steeped in unique culture and traditions too. Moments like taking a ferry through the fjord landscape of Lake Koman before a night in Albania’s bustling capital make this one unforgettable week away.

WALK AMONGST THE MOST STUNNING MOUNTAINS IN THE WORLD - THE KARAKORAM, PAKISTAN

Pakistan’s Karakoram mountains are simply like no others, and we should know - we’ve been trekking there since the 80s. Whilst it still presents as a challenging destination in the minds of many, it’s definitely a place which is on the up, with new easier visa regulations and the feather in the cap of a visit from the British royals this year. Our trekking and walking holidays in the region are how plenty of solo travellers have discovered this beautiful part of the world. In 2019 we relaunched KE’s first trekking peak trip, Gondogoro Peak and the Hush Valley, an adventure which makes the expedition-style sense of exploration you get from trekking here accessible to any regular hillwalker. Receive a warm welcome in the Hushe valley before heading into the mountains and acclimatise, ready for a rewarding ascent of the 5650m high Gondogoro Peak.
