A great walk through the desert in a historic land
Jordan's Dana to Petra Trek
This trip is for those of you who (a) like to walk through the hills and canyons of the Middle Eastern desert and (b) enjoy a trip through the history of the region. Jordan has a lot of history and you will see a lot of it here, in Madaba, in the desert, in Petra, and in Jerash (if you take the extension like I did). I did this trip in April, when the weather is very sunny and warm during the day, and quite cool at night. The walking is not too strenuous, but the days are quite long (about 15km per day) and there are a few days of ascent and descent. The fact that it is at low altitude makes it much easier. The scenery is quite wonderful, with plenty of canyons and wadis and great views of the desert from the higher points along the trek. The sandstone rock has been exposed to hydrological erosion and forms lots of interesting formations. Petra itself is quite large, covering a distance of several kilometres in the canyons. You will spend most of the last day of the hike travelling from the monastery at one end to the treasury at the other. Pay close attention to the guide as the history of Petra is very interesting, spanning the Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and the Ummayad periods. This itinerary doesn't have the usual buffer day or two at the start and end of the hike that you can use to see some of the local sites. I recommend coming down a day or two earlier to see Amman and Madaba, which are interesting and historic places in their own right, and I also recommend doing one of the extensions at the end. I did the Jerash extension and the Roman ruins there are quite impressive. Getting around on your own in Jordan is pretty easy - many people in the tourist areas speak English and Uber is a great way to get around. I also recommend getting a local SIM card at the airport (Orange or Zain) so that you aren't dependent on hotel WiFi which can be flaky.

Awesome adventure! :)
Mount Toubkal in Winter

Had a fantastic trip up mount Toubkal during the winter months. Our guide, Lachen, was amazing and we really enjoyed the journey up the mountain. Our daily activities were relaxed and enjoyable as most of the time was spent hiking or resting/socializing. The summit hike itself was a fun physical challenge, with a rewarding peak at the top. Highly recommend :)

Fantastic
Jordan's Dana to Petra Trek
Firstly I would like to Thank Murad, our guide for the trek. He had plenty of knowledge on Jordan and more than enough for our trip. Day 3 and 4 are a little challenging but well worth it. Little Petra and Petra :) Just unbelievable. Save your strength for the high veiwpoint in Petra, it is quite a climb (steps) but two veiws you will never forget. The catering during the trip was good (in fact the best I have ever had on a trek). I would give Jordan, our guide, and support team, 11out of 10 (in c Mazoo our little Donkey who carried our water) :) Great Trip Thanks

A well organised trip and a fantastic experience.
Snowshoe Traverse of the Chablais
This was a well organised trip with a fantastic guide and really great walking companions. The hotels were very welcoming and the food was always good. The trek from Megevette to the shores of Lac Leman was challenging. Walks starting from the valley invariably gave way to the use of snowshoes as we got higher. Our guide was able to provide an extensive range of information about the region, the architecture of mountain houses and the natural history of the area. It certainly whetted my appetite to do more snowshoeing.

Excellent Guiding and Logistics have Room for Improvements
Jordan's Dana to Petra Trek
While modern transportation makes it possible to do Petra sightseeing as short as a day trip from Amman, this multi-day trek puts the elements of effort, hardship, adventure, and a sense of accomplishment back to a journey of discovery, making the experience more rewarding and memories more enduring. Our trek leader (Murad) has a passion for guiding and a deep love of Jordan trails, and his extensive knowledge of Jordan’s history, culture, and Bedouin’s way of life further enhanced the trekk ing experience. He is one of the top guides we’ve seen in our 9 trips organized by KE. The Wadi Rum extension added a different dimension, a great way to wrap up the walking holiday. While the desert is similar to others such as the Sahara, its red sand dunes and reddish landscape are unique in that they are inter-mixed with rocky hills, natural bridges, and sandstone formations shaped by desert winds and erosions. It is home to several tribes of Bedouin who have evolved from hunting & gathering to eco-tourism, building and maintaining fixed tents with showers and electricity for a luxury desert experience. Yet camels still roam free here, and desert sunset remains spectacular. Knowing every inch of his tribe’s land by heart, our guide (Salameh) was passionate to show us what the Wadi Rum desert has to offer. While the guiding part was a solid 5-star, some of the logistic aspects have room for improvements. (1) The afternoon tea was great, yet it would be better if biscuits are also served along with tea after a long walk of 18km. After all, all the supplies and gears were hauled by 4x4 SUVs/trucks so carrying a few boxes of biscuits shouldn’t be an issue. (2) The tents provided to 2 people were not really 3-person tents, which means it was difficult or impossible to put a KE travel bag along each side of the tent at the same time so that the two sharing the tent can easily access their own bags. In addition, the zips could get jammed easily in a dusty/windy environment so it’s important to clean/wax the zips before the trek, and inspect/replace them as needed. (3) The KE trek package includes the “Jordan Pass” or its equivalent, which qualifies for Jordan Visa fee waiver (40JD per person). Through the local travel agent, KE supports the fee waiver only if one arrives at Amman’s international airport around midnight of Day 1 (UK flight arrival time). For clients arriving earlier, KE does not request the local travel agent to arrange the fee waiver, unless one books both pre-trekking night(s) at the group hotel in Madaba and a private transfer to Madaba through KE, which won’t work if one wants to stay in Amman for the pre-trekking night(s). KE can improve its value-add and clients’ end-to-end experience by supporting the fee waiver for these clients as a service not a sale.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you had such a great time in this amazing country. The KE package does not include a Jordan Pass (entry fees to the sites listed on the itinerary are included in the price of your trip). We are able to take advantage of a visa fee waiver scheme provided specifically for groups arriving in Jordan. To qualify for this scheme, all members of the group have to arrive and depart on the same day. The rules for the scheme are set by the Jordan Tourism Board.

3 weeks of Incredible Experiences - Trip of a Lifetime
Victoria Falls to Cape Town
This trip is vast. With 3 pretty packed weeks of activities & fun, it's really hard to sum this trip up in short so apologies for the long review. Yes, there is the cycling, and some of that is truly incredible. But there's an unbelievable amount also going on off the bike. The Chobe River cruise was spectacular (Elephants, giraffes, birds, lizards etc) & set a seemingly impossibly high bar from which to follow, but the trip continued to outdo itself. Cycling along the long straight some what roads that exist in Botswana can be at times a little, same same, (its not cycling through village after village like you might find in the far east) but this is then all forgotten by the sheer mixture of emotions that come from seeing elephants & such forth from the seat of the bike (a mixture of joy, excitement & please don't squish me); although the excellent guiding team kept us safe and ensured we were well briefed to have the best & safest experience possible. The Trip to Moremi is amazing, we actually saw more on the transfer from Maun to Moremi than we did inside the park itself. So you effectively spend significantly more time on 'game drives' than advertised. Locking Eyes with a Leopard at 4-6ft is something our group is not going to forget. Being early in the season (March Departure) , there is a lot of water about so this 'apparently' limited our animal spotting potential, however, I certainly didn't feel like we missed out. Nambia is a huge change of scene for the trip, and the horizon becomes significantly more interesting & the tarmac stops. The gravel roads are regularly 'ploughed' to keep them running smoothly, but at times can be like riding on corrugated sheeting. Given the distances involves I would be surprised if any trip was done without finding a rough section, but overall the roads are great & the two scenic passes are spectacular. The 45km early morning (4:30 start for us) dash to see the sunrise on the dune is amazing and is on smooth tarmac. The Sesriem Canyon visit was amazing and well worth getting back on the truck for. Day 12 is advertised as a 90km ish day but has been done as a 140km day previously. It's the toughest day of the trip cycling wise, with for us the poorest road (very soft), the support team actually drove the first 40km and we did the rest as a continual (well with stops every 15km and a leisurely lunch) 90km. The last section is long, flat & hot so quite a few jumped in the truck. Fish River & Ai Ais are very much desert days, and are hot & epic, with great views. Ai Ais is defiantly a bit 'tired'. But the large outdoor pool (stargazing swim anyone) is amazing. Crossing over in South Africa the Cederberg wilderness area we were in an alternative campsite due to the Algiers Campsite flooding/fire. But if anything this was a change for the better (afternoon wine tasting) and a superbly presented campsite. We had some minor tweaks to the cycling routes here also but anything in this area is going to be amazing. The cycling in Cape Town is great also, and a real change as the roads are a bit busier & the drivers slightly less amazing. However, anyone used to cycling in the UK on B roads in the hills etc will be totally fine. The two restaurants in cape town were really fantastic ends to the trip. One thing I didn’t expect was how good the food was, the crew knew the demands of the trip and very much had planned the diet to cater to the needs of the trip with appropriate fuel for big days etc. The truck held a well stocked ‘shop’ for our regular 15-20km breaks with Nuts, Sweets, Fruit & generally a selection of ‘daily specials’. Some things for those planning this trip: - We got rained on hard at a couple of points, bring a good waterproof. (Its also really useful for the safari drives) - I mainly used long sleeve Craghoppers safari shirts & bib shorts for cycling to limit sunburn. But a vast mixture of road & mountain bike kit was used across the group. - For the first 2 weeks we wondered why we had the sleeping bags & warm clothing, but you will use it. - For those who have never used electrolytes tabs before, you WILL need them on this holiday to avoid dehydration as you will drink a vast amount of water given the heat. Those in the group without or using table salt as a replacement didn’t fare so well. Although it should be noted that sharing supplies and support teams stocks etc sorted this out. - I wouldn’t bring your own bike unless you are happy to write it off. At first, looking at the hire bikes I thought they were a little tired looking in all honesty, but by day 14 I was amazed at how they have been kept in such good condition given the challenges of the terrain and the dust. The ground agent services the bikes & the support vehicle between each trip & this was very clear. COVID Related Note: The trip I was on was the first trip back since COVID was a thing. This did slightly change our trip (only for the better) in that we were quite often the only campsite guests and that everyone was SO happy to see us. Some of the campsite shops & bars were not yet open but the group was well provisioned from local supermarkets so this was not a problem. KE & the ground agent kept us extremely well informed of changes to requirements on a sometimes daily basis. But this did not interfere with the trip. TLDR: Just book it, you won’t regret it. We saw more Elephants and Giraffes than Dogs for 3 weeks…

A fantastic introduction to winter walking
Mount Toubkal in Winter
Such a great trip - I was looking for a first experience of using crampons which we did for the 2 summit days. Was great to have the flexibility of 2 possible Toubkal summit days - I'd really recommend this as you can't control the weather. The 2 summit days were very very challenging. On our Toubkal day we had wind, snow, poor visibility and the summit was about minus 10-15 degrees so bitterly cold. I wouldn't have wanted to be without ski goggles and very warm gloves. Super hard so for me this trip was more than a 6 out of 10 in terms of difficulty. A whole lot harder than the Julian Alps trip I did. The other days were very warm and I needed trekking t shirts which I hadn't taken (not on kit list). A great break and I'd highly recommend. The guides - Lahcen and Omar were outstanding, food excellent, and a very warm welcome everywhere we went all week.

Fantastic Nabatean Adventure!
Jordan's Dana to Petra Trek
Super adventure. A really well thought out trip building up to visiting Little Petra and Petra. Our guide Murad was one of the best I've ever walked with, very informative. Over the course of the 6 days he provided a wealth of information about the long varied history of the region. Our support crew also provided a good home cooked meal every night with a lots of fresh vegetables, also probably the best food I've had. Also, they had brand new tents. Murad started with a description of the terrai n, rocky. That about sums it up, so the miles seemed a little longer. The weather (late March) was cool mornings turning into warm/hot afternoons. A couple chilly night in tents. I would suggest arriving a day early to explore Madaba, Mosaic City. It has several small archaeological sites that are easy and inexpensive to visit. 1,600 year old mosaics. The other reason is the scheduled flight arrives at midnight so u really do not have a 'night' at the start before leaving for the start of the trek. Overall it was a super adventure.

A wonderful week away from the gloom of the UK walking in the Canary Islands.
Walking Lanzarote - The Island of Eternal Spring
I have not travelled with KE before and went because of an invitation to join a friend. So I was unsure what to expect - but I was not disappointed. I like small group travel that is a little off the beaten track - and that is exactly what I got! I have never been to the Canary Islands before and was very pleasantly surprised by the barren beauty and culture of Lanzarote. The accomodation was very pleasant (if a little cold in the mornings and evenings) with basic but perfectly acceptable make-i t yourself continental style breakfast. Beautifully prepared and presented picnic lunches were supplied by our wonderful guide, Eric, whom I cannot fault. We trekked from north to south along the GR route and met virtually no-one else, stopping off in isolated spots or sleepy little whitewashed villages. After walking we would stop off at some form of museum or 'garden', giving a great mix of outdoors trekking and cultural enlightenment! Visiting the museum/house of Cesar Manrique was one of the many highlights, as was the extraordinary Jameous del Agua. Dinner involved a 10-15 minute walk into town, where 3 course meals had been prepared for us at a number of restaurants, giving us a chance to experience local cuisine. What made the trip was the attention to detail, enthusiam and knowledge of our guide, Erik, who, though French, came to Lanzarote many years ago, fell in love with it and never left. Having had this experience of a KE holiday, I shall definitely travel with them again.

Fabulous holiday with brilliant guide
Secret Sierras of the Costa Blanca

What a wonderful hiking holiday this was. The scenery was incredible, with jagged limestone peaks and ridges set against the back drop of the Costa Blanca. Our guide, Jose, was wonderful. Very experienced, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, with a lovely, wry sense of humour. The three hotels were very different, but all excellent. The food was incredible and all local fare. I loved my day off exploring Altea on the coast - a lovely gem of a place. I would absolutely recommend this holiday.

A fine walking week on lesser visited mountain trails
Ronda and the White Villages of Andalucia

This recently introduced walking week gives you a great taste of the less well known mountain sierras in Andalucia. Two contrasting small town bases (Ronda and Grazalema) with very varied mountain trails within short road transfers. Half day walks are not too demanding and allow you to see many different environments while enjoying plenty of free time and relaxed evenings with good food and wine.

Lanzarote - an unexpected treat!
Walking Lanzarote - The Island of Eternal Spring
I was after a March walking trip in Europe with decent weather, great scenery and a bit of culture, so my options initially looked somewhat limited. This trip ticked every box. The walk actually runs north to south on the GR131 (not as described in the trip notes) and only deviates off this route to visit the spectacular Famara cliffs, which is one of the highlights of the walk. My other favourite walking day was through the vineyards with an ascent of the Guardilama Volcano with its fantastic 3 60° panorama. The trip finishes with a visit to the Isla Graciosa which has beautiful beaches for swimming and also more extinct volcanoes if you still fancy stretching your legs. Minibus transfers each day were short as the relatively small resort town of Costa Teguise is conveniently situated. I really enjoyed the end of the afternoon cultural stops. I had little idea of the work of the artist Cesar Manrique – you will know all about him after this trip! Even if you aren’t into art or architecture you will be wowed by his quirky buildings constructed in volcanic bubbles and lava tubes; with their 1970’s vibe you feel you are on the set of a Roger Moore Bond film! Erik, our guide was fantastic and a pleasure to travel with. He produces amazing picnic lunches with many homemade treats – his gazpacho and tortilla were notable culinary highlights. The accommodation was excellent. Our ‘bungalow’ had two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a kitchen and comfortable sitting room. The self-catering breakfasts worked well with eggs, jam, butter and bread always available. There is a pool but it is somewhat bracing on this March departure! The weather was sunny and warm during the day, with a mostly gentle breeze - ideal walking weather. The temperature does drop at night so bring some warmer clothes for the 10 minute walk into the centre of Costa Teguise were a dinner reservation was made for the group each evening at a different local restaurant. This was my first trip to the Canary Islands and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this turned out to be an excellent trip. I’m now keen to explore more of these unexpectedly interesting islands!

Challenging and stunning
Jordan's Dana to Petra Trek
If you are looking to combine challenging trekking, high passes, varied scenery and an immersion in Jordan’s past present and future, then this for you. On a par with EBC and The Balkans. Like all KE trips it is great for couples, friends, singles and all ages. As long as you have decent hiking fitness, a willingness to mix in with new people and a desire to learn then this is for you. Just don’t be too precious about washing or the toileting arrangements! Happy to be contacted about any asp ect of the trip.

Enjoyable holiday
Finland Wilderness Snowshoe Adventure
I enjoyed this holiday. It wasn't massively strenuous, so it should be within the capabilities of any adequately fit walker. This isn't a mountain holiday - the terrain is reasonably flat, basically snowshoeing through the forest (including low ridges between the various lakes) and over the frozen lakes (50 cm thick ice). As it's in the forest so there aren't any major views, but it's a different (and nice) experience from snowshoeing in the mountains, and given the northerly latitude there was plenty of snow. Bear in mind that it could be very cold (it was below -10 C on some days on my trip) so definitely bring the recommended cold weather clothing. As discussed in the trip notes, there were people there from several different European counties who'd booked with various tour companies. But English was the only common language, and all the guiding was in English. The main cabin has hot water, electricity and Wi-Fi and was quite comfortable. The two cabins on the three day trip had no electricity but and were more basic but were still reasonably comfortable - albeit rather cold until the log stoves heated them up. Saunas are available on all days - they didn't do a lot for me but other people really enjoyed them. I'd also recommend taking an extra day before or after to look round Helsinki - easily done as you need to change flights in Helsinki anyway (if flying from the UK).

A fantastic trip!
Secret Sierras of the Costa Blanca
This was a brilliant trip from start to finish. Our guide, Jose, was outstanding. He was lots of fun, very knowledgeable about the area, and paced us well. It rained on the first 2 days and Jose took us on lower level and easier walks than planned, then later in the week added an extra walk taking us to the top of Aitana. The walking was challenging at times but Jose was so encouraging and we all made it to the top of Puig Campana, one of the many highlights of the week. The views were stunning. We stayed in 3 different places, all of which were great. Food was excellent and plentiful, and our hosts were excellent, particularly at Benimantell and Castell de Castells. We had such fun!

Kilimanjaro - The Majestic mountain
Kilimanjaro Rongai Route
Very good trip. KE's management faultless as always. The route itself is good for acclimatization. Veg food is available everyday, and you would appreciate what you are getting considering where you are. The hotel selection was good as well. For the route, I believe the Lemosho route is better though. On Rongai route - be prepared for the final climb. It is brutal. first 6 days are very easy (Walk in the park really). Final day starts at 1.00 am in cold and scree. It is steep and very very deman ding. By the time you reach Gillmans point, you are only hoping for it to be the summit. And then you have 2 more hours to go :-). Again, KE's management, crew selection cannot be faulted. They are easy 5*. I have given overall trip 4* only for the route compared to Lemosho .

Best trip ever
Everest the Hard Way Trek
Absolutely the best trip ever. Who knew going alone to Himalayas with 7 strangers and crew members would turn out out to be the best trip you have ever had. Everything that KE did on this trip was faultless and an easy 5*. The food, the service, the trek, the crew members, and more importantly the management of everything was perfect. The trip in itself is just mind blowing. It is very long. You need to have good fitness, specially going over the passes. You climb extremely slowly (right thing t o do) and this allows you to really enjoy the scenery and not burn yourself out. Every single night stop is brilliant and has its own character. You really start appreciating what you are getting when you realise where you are and how difficult it would be to get everything there. I would recommend this trip without a doubt to anyone who has decent cardiovascular fitness and can stay in secured wilderness (lodges) for 20 odd days. The views, KE's management and the whole of Sagarmatha region will not disappoint you.

Magnificent mountain walking
Secret Sierras of the Costa Blanca
This is a wonderful trip to an area we had not visited before. Jose had planned an excellent and thoughtful itinerary for the week (it rained for the first 2 days but Jose adapted his plans and took us on some great walks, our safety and enjoyment always his priority). Once the weather cleared, we were able to fully appreciate his careful planning and knowledge of the routes and mountain flora, as well as the stunning views. Each of the 3 bases was excellent - with fabulous food and friendly sta ff and the walks were great. Be prepared for a variety of terrain. Good boots and walking poles highly recommended! Jose's knowledge, patience, and great sense of humour made this a very special holiday in an amazingly beautiful part of the world.
