The Highlights of Vietnam

land of exceptional natural beauty with a diverse rich culture. Our Vietnam trips have evolved and developed over more than twenty years of operating there.  We asked a few of the KE team, who have travelled through Vietnam and fallen in love with the country to name a few of their highlights.

Halong Bay

An iconic archipelago of limestone pillars towering over quaint hidden bays surrounded by lush forests, Halong Bay is the natural symbol of Northern Vietnam. The best way to experience this incredible area is from a traditional style Junk rig boat, which allows you to leave the city and spend a night afloat in amongst these beautiful Islands.

Hoi An

Colourful and vibrant, yet peaceful and atmospheric. By day the historic port offers an abundance of temples and merchant houses to explore. But it’s at night that this place comes alive with colourful lanterns strung all along the streets and restaurants serving aromatic infusion of Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese and Portuguese dishes through its historical past as a key trading port.

Local Food

Start practising your chopstick technique now, as there may be no knives and forks during part of your tour. Vietnamese cuisine is fresh, fragrant and flavoursome and there will usually be something to please everyone (vegan, lactose and gluten free included ) at every meal. 'Pho’ a noodle soup, steamed chicken/pork, stir-fried vegetable and spring rolls are a daily occurance along with freshly picked fruit.

Chu Chi Tunnels

At first sight it looks like any other Vietnamese forest. But, beneath is an intricate network of tunnels dug by the legendary Viet Cong during the Resistance war against the United States. Now a major site of interest you can learn how this small group of guerrilla fighters fought off a super power and lived unnoticed for years.

Mekong Delta

The lifeblood of southern Vietnam this is more than just a river. It’s a home to floating villages, a place of work for floating markets and an incredible patchwork of farms all along its banks. Many of our trips that visit the Mekong will get you out on the water and allow you to explore remote areas of this vast river network.

Homestays

Often quoted as a highlight of a trip; homestays have become a firm favourite with KE customers and it’s easy to see why. Staying in a traditional, often stilted, home with a local family, rather than a hotel, allows you to immerse in the culture and learn more about this incredible country.

Travelling by overnight train

Step onboard the "Reunification Express" and travel the length of the country on the overnight train. With private berths such as 'soft sleeper' class, you can be rocked to sleep and wake up whilst travelling through the lush Vietnamese countryside or ever changing coastal bays. It's also a superb alternative to interal flights.

Pu Luong Nature Reserve

A stark contrast to the fast paced bustling cities of urban Vietnam, life in the Pu Luong region, high in the mountains of North Vietnam, moves very slowly. Synonymous with terraced paddy fields and bamboo water wheels exploring this beautiful national park. While you can day trip into the area to fully appreciate this incredible place you really have to spend a night there and take time to appreciate the rich depth of wildlife.

Explore Vietnam

These are just a few of the highlights of Vietnam and as you'll see it's hard to fit all of them into one trip to Vietnam. But whatever tour of Vietnam you choose, we're sure you'll have an amazing time and want to come back again to explore more of this incredible country.
