A superb Mountain Experience
Italian High Level Route
This was a great mountain experience that if anything is undersold in the brochure. The trip had a superb variety of alpine trekking and serious mountain terrain. The highlight was undoubtably the descent on the Thursday to the new Monta Rosa hut. You do need to be fairly fit and you do need to be well used to your boots. I would also advise anyone to keep their weight down. We were lucky to have a great guide in Caroline Ogden who has well as knowing her stuff kept everyones spirits up and was empathetic with all of the group.

wow I've got to go back
Classic Laugavegur Trail Trek
Just returned from an amazing trip to Iceland.
This was the first ‘shared’ KE trip that I have been on, linked up with a guide and group of fourteen from Iceland’s oldest guiding company, Icelandic Mountain Guides.
As I have come to expect being a regular KE traveller, this trip was well organised from start to finish. We had two guides, Maggie and Milla plus a support driver come porter come Chef.
Iceland is an amazing place of contrasts, our trip took us from the â€
˜Harry Potter’ world in terms of volcanic scenery at Landmannalaugar to the green land that is Thorsmork.
Accommodation was in simple but comfortable mountain huts wherein our guides, ably assisted by a team of volunteers from within the group, cooked fabulous evening meals such as barbequed Icelandic lamb, wild salmon, lightly curried cod fillet and a belly busting lamb soup that contained fresh vegetables and large chunks of lamb, fit for a navvy.
Breakfast included on two mornings the most expertly cooked ‘Scottish’ porridge courtesy of Andrew from Fife and Duncan from Angus.
After breakfast there was an array of items for us to make our packed lunch with including smoked lamb and smoked salmon.
As with any trip, the guides can make all the difference and this trip was no exception. Maggie and Milla, both experienced hikers, added expert knowledge and humour plus a firm commitment to ensure our comfort and safety.
The free day in Reykjavik (one and half in my case thanks to a later flight time) enabled a number of us to go whale watching and tour this really interesting city whose people could not have been more friendly and helpful.
Don’t miss a visit to the beautiful Hallgrimskirkja church with its five hundred pipe organ nor the lift up to the viewing gallery.
It also enabled me to dine out at the wonderful Laekjarbrekka classic Icelandic restaurant which I highly recommend. Do try the Icelandic feast, the starter includes 90 day rotted shark served in a sealed jar with the recommendation that you eat it last!!!!!!
There is so much to see that a second visit is essential.

Hard walking
Tour de Monte Rosa
Walkers considering this should be aware it is a step up in all senses from similarly graded Tour de Combins and Queyras; the walks have more ascent and descent and are steeper.Having said that path is always clear and walkable ; the huts are good; bunk beds or better with good food and views.Highlights were the views fom Europehutte and Resy hut and the walks to col de Theodule and the Walliser villages and generally being up high in stunning scenery. There is a swimming pool at hotel at end of Europaweg day. This is a challenging walk but well worth effort.

A beautiful walking holiday
Tastes and Trails of North Macedonia

Macedonia has so much to offer in terms of beautiful mountain and lakeside scenery. We were given very selective hotels + excellent service and delicious local foods which were especially good for us vegetarians.
Macedonia is a fascinating country and we loved the opportunity to learn about its culture, political situation and how people live there. Our support through tourism which they are keen to develop is really appreciated.

Fabulous programme of activites in wonderful location
Slovenian Family Adventure - Julian Alps
We all loved the activites organised by our guides, and the pace was good. The guides were fun, enthusiastic and also professional. They encouraged everyone to challenge themselves, but not too much! They helped out if anyone struggled.
I fail to find a favourite - from the hike on the first day, the mountain biking, summer toboggan, white water rafting, rock climbing and high ropes plus a swim in lake Bled to finish off - such memorable experiences; we loved them all!
My only
criticism was that we had a substantial buffet breakfast and buffet dinner at the hotel, and on three days, we ate out at local restaurants and had four course meals - it was simply too much, and I felt, rather a waste of food (we couldn't eat it all) and time. On one day we lost an opportunity to swim in lake Bled. The sun was out, a picnic would have been perfect, but by the time we had sat through four courses of unnecessary food, it was pouring with rain!

A very good week walking in a stunning part of the world.
Across the Julian Alps to Triglav
We were originally booked on a guaranteed trip to the Julian Alps in September but this was cancelled because people dropped out eight weeks before departure and we were advised to switch to this earlier trip. This was not cost free. Although KE paid the administrative charges to change our Easyjet flights we had to pay for more expensive flights. So beware. Guaranteed does not mean guaranteed and the financial risk falls primarily on the customer not KE if you have booked your own flights. Whil e still on the issue of flights we drove two and a half hours to Stansted to catch what was listed as the group flight only to have to wait for an hour at Ljubljana airport for a flight from Manchester to arrive. Manchester airport is 30 minutes from our home. We thought that to take advantage of the free transfer you had to arrive before the group flight not after it. Greater information about flight options would be appreciated. To move on. Slovenia is a beautiful country and the area around Lake Bled and the Jullian Alps is stunning. It was a shame that we could not stay in a hotel in Bled as originally advertised on the first and last day. The hotel in Ribnio was OK (apart from the breakfast coffee which was the worst we have ever tasted) but too far outside of Bled to explore the town properly. The walking on this trip is up there with the best we have done. It is hard but worth it. The mountain huts (with the exception of the Triglav hut) are very good. Clean and friendly. The Triglav hut is very busy and has not received adequate investment. It was the only hut with dirty toilets and no toilet paper. The final climb up Triglav is long, steep, exposed in places, but well-protected with wires. It is also very busy with bottlenecks meaning considerable waiting. The summit was very crowded (think Snowdon on a bank holiday). Finally, I'd like to praise our guides David and Luka. They were friendly, relaxed, but very efficient.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review and we are sorry for the issues you have mentioned prior to the start of your holiday. When we received cancellations for the departure on which you were originally booked, we offered to transfer you to an alternative departure, initially and principally because you had told us you did not wish to travel in a small group. We paid the penalty charges of £120 for changing the dates of the flights you had booked so you were able to switch to a departure with 10 people. We generally arrange the group transfer to fit with the most popular flight, which for this trip is from Stansted with Easyjet. As we had some clients arriving on the Slovenian airline flight from Manchester just 45 minutes later it was decided to wait for them. However, the return flight to Manchester departed over 7 hours before the Stansted flight so it would not have been possible for you to take advantage of the free transfer on your return if you had chosen to fly from Manchester. We are pleased that you found Slovenia to be a beautiful country with stunning scenery and that you thought the walking to be 'up there with the best you have ever done'. Nevertheless, we are very sorry for an inconvenience caused to you and hope that this experience does not deter you from travelling with KE again in the future.

A fantastic 6000m peak and a wonderful trek
Stok Kangri & the Markha Valley

A bit of everything River rafting, high altitude road passes, monasteries (including the Dali Lama on our trip). Wonderful treks with great scenery, and finishing off with a 6000m summit. A great all round experience.

Ok
Tour de Monte Rosa

My fellow traveller was ill so we left the trip for 4 days. We did days 1 and 2 and days 7 and 8. I did day 9 whilst my friend went to the last hotel on public transport. I think the trek is harder than publicised - I did the Tour du Mont Blanc last year with Explore and it was a breeze compared with this trek. Not sure I will be going with KE again.

KE Adventure reply

We are sorry to learn that you missed 4 days of the trek and found the remainder harder than expected. We do say this is one of the most challenging of all the classic Alpine treks, but we have taken into consideration what you have told us and after consultation with our guides, have increased the grade from '8' to '9' to further emphasise this fact. We hope that you will consider travelling with us again and we are always happy to chat to you about a holiday if you are unsure whether or not it is suitable. For nearly all our holidays you will be able to speak to someone who can talk you through the trip from first hand experience. On our website we publish the total distance walked, the estimated time taken and the total ascent and descent for each day of the trek, together with a description of the terrain and the actual GPS data where this is available. This will also help you to assess the overall difficulty of the holiday.

A challenging & fantastic week in Norway
Traverse of the Jotunheimen
The Traverse of the Jotunheimen was one of my all-time favorite trips. The first few days were tougher than I'd expected -- this is a land of far distances and a lot of rock -- but the "huts" are fabulous to relax your tired feet. Jakob is a fantastic leader, subtle but superb in his leadership with a wonderful wry & dry sense of humor. The highlight of the trip was the day on the glacier. I'd been on glaciers before, but never like this. I wanted more! We had great weath er, but clearly rain and mud are often a problem. I recommend gaiters for the mud and stout boots for the rock and the crampons. I'm also really glad I brought my big lightweight down jacket. It was perfect at rest stops.

Wonderful and memorable new experiences for all the family
Slovenian Family Adventure - Julian Alps
So many amazing new experiences. There was great variety of activities with enough time to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. We were all challenged at different times during the holiday and there was a great sense of achievement in succeeding and completing the activities. Our guide Nina could not have been more helpful throughout the holiday - she was cheerful and easy going. Bring comfortable sports shoes and clothes. The hotel was very helpful at catering for our 2 coeliac children and went to great efforts to ensure they were well catered and looked after.

Excellent trip - very well organised
Best of the Tour du Mont Blanc

Just returned from this trip, it was excellent. The views are spectacular! Our guide Frank was great, he set a good walking pace which made the trekking enjoyable. His knowledge of the Alps is vast, he showed us lots of interesting points and stories that we would never of known. All the accommodations and food were very good except for one meal we had which was very poor standard (les contamines).

Land of the trolls
Traverse of the Jotunheimen
This is quite a tough trip but I'd highly recommend it. We had fantastic weather and the walks on the Bessegen ridge and up Galdhoppigen were fantastic. Some of the walks were long over rough terrain so I'd definitely go for comfort with boots - I'd been struggling to break in some crampon compatible boots and in the end chose not to go on the glacier walk in order to give my blisters and tender forefeet a day to recover. The huts were very comfortable and generally food very good and plentiful, although for evening meals meat (pork or beef) and 2 veg predominates and some nights we wished we'd feigned vegetarianism as the vegetable lasagne and fish dishes looked so good. I developed a strong liking for Norwegian fruit and nut chocolate bars which was my major expense during the trip - £3.50 for 100g or £5.20 for 200g but it wasn't a whole lot cheaper in the cities. Alcohol very expensive. Our guide Jakob was excellent - I have some new yoga moves, have tried many edible plants at his suggestion and we had great fun bum-sliding down part of Galdhoppigen. I extended my trip with some time in Oslo, Flam and Bergen with a trip on the beautiful Oslo-Bergen railway. For those who live in North of Scotland, I'd recommend flying from Aberdeen. Despite the expense of Norway, it is a country that is cheap and quick to get to and I've left feeling there is much more that I want to see, hike, ski and cycle.

Jaw-dropping mountain biking
The Classic Leh to Manali Mountain Bike Traverse
This cycling holiday was fantastic and I am fairly certain that the best way to see Ladakh is from a mountain bike. The trip started gently, with the first few days of acclimatization more notable for the cultural activities (Buddhist monasteries galore) than for the cycling. But once we hit the road, each day was a challenging, rewarding ride with unforgettable scenery, speed, and terrain. The trip details were well taken care of. Ketan was an excellent guide, the support staff were great, acco mmodations were good and the food was delicious. I would give some advice to future travellers. While there is plenty of cool-weather cycling, there are also a few hot days at lower elevations to bring lighter clothing for. The car exhaust can be quite bad on the roads and anyone with allergies/asthma should bring an inhaler. I'm very glad I decided to do this trip - it pushed my limits physically and the reward was a Himalayan adventure that I'll never forget.

A very varied activity holiday
Slovenian Family Adventure - Julian Alps
Ales and Nina were excellent trip leaders who worked very well with the children. They were very patient and knew just how far to push/encourage them. Adults were also challenged! Expect a full-on week. The days were always busy. If you are looking for plenty of chill-out time this trip probably isn't for you! Bear in mind the actual days of the itinerary may be changd to make the most of the weather. Make sure you book the white water rafting. Nearly everyone said this was the highlight of their trip. We would recommend this for people looking for plenty of action experiences.

Magestic toubkal
One Week Mount Toubkal Trek

Spent a brilliant week climbing 5 of the Atlas Mountains, ending with toubkal. Awesome scenery, great guide and fab group. However this trip has a brutal terrain so if you have bad knees, ankles etc please beware....also worth noting that this trip is rated as a 6 level difficulty, it's more like a 7 or 8 though so don't be misled that it's a leisurely stroll up the mountains, it's pretty hardcore.

traversing the Jotunheimen with Jakob cream crackered
Traverse of the Jotunheimen
Fantastic weeks trek in the Jotunheimen, admittedly we got lucky with the weather, virtually unbroken sunshine, so we saw Norway at its best. The first three days were definitely the hardest, but no less enjoyable. The traverse of the Bessegen ridge on the first days trekking was very busy, apparently Norways most popular walk. Bum sliding down the Galdhopiggen was a real highlight, also the optional climb up the exposed Kyrkja summit was exhilarating although I don't know if I would have b een brave enough to attempt it in bad weather. Overall we had a good group of 6 to walk with and we all got on well. The trip was superbly led by Jakob, a German guide who had a deep knowledge of his surroundings and a dry sense of humour, which made the week fly by. I would certainly be keen to return to Norway again in the future. One word of warning, if your not keen on Pork or Beef, it might be sensible to be veggie for a week. Absolutely marvellous
