Superb adventure!
Family Adventure in Cappadocia and Turkey’s Taurus Mountains
We had an absolutely fantastic holiday, starting just 3 weeks after the attempted coup. We felt completely safe and very well cared for at all times, and kept on saying to each other how much we would have missed out on had we cancelled as a result of the political situation. The UK government travel advice was sound - although there was no time when we felt we needed to be particularly vigilant. The local people we met were all very welcoming, and several thanked us for coming in these difficul t times.

Our guide, Ibrahim, was absolutely superb, at times acting like a welcome third parent to our daughters, aged 10 and nearly 12. He knew the mountains, and paths in Kapadokya, really well and made the - at times challenging - walking really enjoyable. He picked up on the things we were interested in, arranging extra trips to accommodate these, such as visits to mosques and a carpet factory. We really enjoyed all our conversations with him, and felt we learnt a huge amount about the environment, culture and political situation of Turkey. He is an absolutely lovely person, as is the driver, Ahamed.

Highlights were horseriding, local (not touristy!) hamman, mountain trek, underground city - and pretty much everything! We were invited in for tea by shepherds on the mountains, who were very friendly - one gave my daughters rides on his donkey and made us some hiking sticks (which we managed to get home on the plane!) The cave hotel was awesome, and the campsites in stunning settings. The food was absolutely delicious, and we all enjoyed pretty much every meal.

If you've not travelled Turkish Airlines before, they are excellent - the seats were comfortable, staff friendly and entertainment system excellent for all ages. You might like to bring your own food though... and perhaps your own headphones.

It would be worth bringing hiking sticks if you have them for the rough mountain paths, and good walking boots are absolutely essential.

Have a great time if you decided to go on this holiday! We recommend it 100% if you like a bit of a physical challenge on holiday and are up for anything.

Great Trek
Traverse of Bolivia's Cordillera Real
My wife and I did the 20 day Traverse of the Cordillera Real in Bolivia and had a great time. The hiking was moderate with a lot of up & down through valleys and saddles, but not really hard. We had amazing mountain views. I would warn trekkers about the cold nights we encountered (of course when you are at 15,000 feet you should expect very cold nights). Definitely take a zero degree sleeping bag (and a liner) and a very warm down jacket & gloves. We slept with 2 baselayers, down jac ket, hat and gloves and still were cold at night.
Our guide, Ricardo, was great; he kept a nice hiking pace, was very friendly and very knowledgeable, and solved most issues quickly. He also gave us Bolivian history lessons after dinner.
Two folks in our group (of 8) had tent/zipper issues that for some reason couldn't be completely resolved even with replacement tents. (An open tent door in freezing windy night temps can be a real issue...) Day hiking was in the 60s to 70sF, perfect for hiking. No rain, two days were windy, but not a real issue.
We visited the ruins of Tihunanaco and did several interesting things in and around Lake Titicaca to get used to the altitude. We also stayed a couple extra days in La Paz, which has several good museums and interesting areas to visit.
The food throughout the trek was very good.
All in all, this was an excellent trek with lots of great hiking and things to see.

Great trek with good accommodation and food
High Tatras Trekking - The Carpathian Mountains
Very happy with Hubert as guide - personable, knowledgeable, helpful, and relaxed but on-the-ball. Good to have second guide on Rysy ascent day, especially with group of 14.
Beautiful and quite varied trekking/scenery. Busy route in places - too busy for comfort now and again, but not enough to spoil the experience overall. Enjoyed seeing the chamois above the last hut.
My first KE trek, but the grading seems appropriate - not very demanding, but you do have to carry your own gear
. My advice is to take as light a bag as possible on the trek, unless you are used to carrying plenty - got everything I needed into a 33 litre backpack no problem, plus some other bits and pieces I left at hotel in Zakopane. I took trekking poles, but didn't find them useful as much of the route is stepped rather than sloping - personal preference, though.
The hotels (first and last nights) were fine and the huts were very comfortable - we had rooms for between 2 and 8 people. Some huts had drying rooms, which was a bonus. Food in the huts was good and filling. Good selection of extra snacks and drinks available. Most days there are also stops en route at other huts where you can pick up extra supplies or get a coffee, beer or a snack, depending on what keeps you going.
An exception to the comment on huts is Bilikova (Day 5), where the rooms were fine, but the service was poor - the evening meal was inadequate (they'd run out of food after a busy day, they said) and they unapologetically stopped serving anything at all by 9pm, which was disappointing.
As someone new to the ways of KE, I wasn't over impressed with the travel arrangements on Day 1 and Day 7. For example, at the end of the trek "our transport will be waiting and we drive for approximately 2 hours back to Krakow, where we check into our hotel" (from itinerary shown on website) actually means a private bus back to Zakopane (great), a two-hour spell in Zakopane (we were wet after the morning's rain, with nowhere to get changed), a 2 hour 20 minute public bus back to Krakow, and a tram from the bus station to the hotel. For this reason, I found the website description misleading. I suggest the wording is changed, as "our transport" (also used on Day 1) implies private not public transport. The airport transfers were fine, however.

A memorable challenge....
Walk to Freedom across the Pyrenees

Having read the Edward Stourton book 'Cruel Crossing', I was keen to walk the route used my many escaping Nazi tyranny during WW2.
Having now experienced the walk in ideal conditions (weather/kit/accommodation and guides), I am in complete awe of the efforts, courage and stamina of those who made the cruel crossing(s) with so much less all those years ago.
Thank you KE for arranging such a memorable trek, and in particular, to our guide John Howie.

A real adventure in a little known but fascinating country
Trekking in Georgia and the High Caucasus
The High Caucasus mountains were remote and beautiful, a little like the French Alps without France! There were few roads, no shops or any kind of infrastructure. Many of the villages are cut off in the winter. The scenery was green and lush and quite difficult underfoot sometimes. It rained a lot, luckily for us almost always at night! We were well looked after in the camps, I got a tent to myself by luck but might next time pay out for the single supplement as it was much easier to deal with w et weather. The trekking was easy some days and more strenuous others - the itinerary had to be changed because landslides had taken out some of the footbridges, but I didn't feel we missed out. The trek guide Beqa was very competent and reassuring, and the overall guide and interpreter Levan was always interesting, helpful and good-natured.

Food and everything was great, one suggestion would be to offer everyone a cuppa on their return from the trek, it would have made things more social at late afternoon time. The hotel in Tbilisi was nice and in a perfect location. Tbilisi is a wonderful capital city, buzzing at all times of day and night, so much to see and do, and a really friendly place to be. I booked my own flights and was glad of that, because I arrived in Tbilisi at about 1am, instead of the included flight arrival time of 6am. So I got a night's sleep before going off on trek. On the way back everyone else left at 4am, I stayed an extra couple of days and got a flight leaving at 4.30pm, much more civilised! (that was with Ukrainian International). Georgia is culturally a really interesting place, a different perspective but very accessible. And the wine is excellent. I really recommend this trip.

A fantastic trekking holiday
K2, Concordia and the Gondogoro La

This holiday is packed with fascinating things to see. The days spent travelling and sightseeing give you a flavour of Pakistani life, but nothing beats the mountain views you get from walking in the Karakoram. The crew and staff are excellent and look after you extremely well. Most days average about 6-7 hours walking, and the tough day crossing the Gondogoro La was offset by a few easy days walking after it. Highly recommended for any keen hiker!

The true splendour of the Dolomites with the thrill of via Ferratta
Dolomites Via Ferrata
The Dolomites are certainly a fantastic mountain range that offer something for everybody regardless of ability, age or disposition. The via Ferrata experience is a great way to see and to get amongst the massively impressive mountain ranges that dominate the landscape. The week was spent building our skills and gradually increasing the difficulty of the challenges to the point where we were safe and confident despite being exposed several thousands of feet above perilous scree slopes and vertic al drops. The organisation was, as expected, very good with a guide who was both capable and had a sound knowledge of the routes and locations. The guide (Francois) was quickly able to assess individuals capabilities and ensure the challenges were within their ability. The group gelled together very well and as a consequence were able to give each other the support and confidence needed to achieve what previously would have been thought to be unachievable. The whole experience was particularly memorable, not only the mountains, the great group but also the organisation which ran smoothly making the experience all the more rewarding. Clearly the week was tailored to meet our needs and can be easily adjusted to suit a less able or more able group, accessing these mountains is well within anybody's reach. I would certainly recommend KE Adventure to friends and would be happy to recommend via ferratta to any interested party. I would make a couple of comments that might help other travellers wishing to take part in this experience. Firstly, the weather can quickly change from being sunny and around 25 degrees to being very wet including thunder and lightening, consequently participants need to have good water proofs. I took my summer walking gear which included a lightweight waterproof jacket but I needed my winter gear as the rain was torrential (think of a firemans hose) and my summer gear wasn't good enough. Also when packing your gear participants need to be aware that they will have to carry the harness and helmet whilst walking to the start of the via Ferratta which takes up a lot of room in the rucksack, therefore it is important that the rucksack has sufficient capacity to carry these items otherwise it can be a problem. Hope this helps, it was a fantastic week one that I'll live on for a long time to come Cheers Ian Ian Hardicker

Fantastic trip, well thought out itinerary, and quite demanding.
Canadian Summit Scramble
This is a really great trip, our first time to Canada and whilst the mountains were as beautiful as we expected, the weather was much hotter than anticipated. Whilst the mileages don't look too long on paper, there was a lot of ascent most days, and of course a corresponding amount of descent, which was often on loose gravel or scree, so was quite hard on the knees. Walking poles were therefore a great help. There were a few opportunities to swim; the hotel in Calgary has a pool, plus we ha d a swim in a lake one day and a visit to Banff hot springs, so pack a swimming costume too. We hadn't realised that this was a trip advertised in other countries by KE's partner agencies, so we found ourselves in a group of 12; 5 were from the UK, 5 from Germany and 2 from Austria. Our guides, Martin and Hubert, were French and German, though both now living in Canada, so it was a very multi-national experience. Thankfully, all spoke English pretty well, so all communications were in English. We thoroughly recommend this trip, as you get to see quite a lot of the Rockies in a relatively short time, sampling some of the best walks in the area.

Exceptional Guide, Great Opportunity to See Real Armenia
Armenia's Trekking Highlights

This was a very good trip with an exceptional guide named Haek. Haek is more of a scholar than a traditional adventure travel guide. He provided details, history and provenance for all sites seen. There were extra travel treats like a monastery built into the side of a mountain while on a trail, a trip to an amazing bread bakery.

The accommodations and food were exceptional. Rare I eat so well on a trip! And, as I am vegetarian the staff went out of their way to cater to my needs.

Top Notch Trek
Secret Switzerland - Tour des Combins
Fantastic route through stunning mountains. The organisation of every aspect of the trip was excellent. Elaine, our superb guide, always got us to the days' mountain huts - all set in spectacular locations - by mid afternoon, and where available we even had stops for morning coffee and cake.
Chloe, from KE, carried a huge camera to record everything scenic and memorable, from steep paths and animals to food and lovely mountain plants. She was also a very helpful companion.
The
joys of this trek are too numerous to mention and will be a fund of enduring happy memories for me.

Tough Hiking with worthwhile Stunning Scenery and a Sense of Adventure
4000m Peaks of Morocco
I thought I was a pretty experienced hiker/trekker having covered plenty of the UK and done numerous multiple day treks around the globe. This trek was another level - more days, at a higher altitude and with big assents and descents than anything I had done before. And I LOVED it! It wasn’t a walk in the park but then shouldn’t you have to put the work in to experience spectacular and unusual landscapes, camp in stunning isolated spots and walk right through the middle of Berber Villages wh ich are cut off from the outside world only being accessed by foot, or Mule? The food was the best I have ever eaten while on a trek. It was mainly authentic Moroccan in the evenings, always freshly prepared, healthy and there always enough to go around. The lead guide Mohamed, the chef Mohammed, and the other guys were all hard working and seemed to be enjoying their time too. They always greeted the weary trekkers with a warm welcome. This was certainly a hiker’s experience. In the past I have hiked as part of a wider cultural experience. This trip was certainly different and I would have been happy to have more opportunity to experience more culture and mixing with the Berber of the mountains – this isn’t a criticism of the trek as I knew what the trip offered and the group did have a tour of one of the villages and did get some cultural experience at other times. I guess four 4000 peaks summarises well – it was about conquering peaks as much as anything. The Toubkal ascent was the least interesting part of the trip for me, and the camp we based ourselves at for this, and two other peaks, was not my favourite location. There was a hostel and numerous other groups and individuals camping. The area was littered and lacked the sense of isolation and remoteness I had experienced and relished prior to this stage. I think I had been spoiled in the preceding days as I had been blown away! Any points which seem negative are just relating to my personal preferences; the tour was very well organised and professional, without detracting from the sense of adventure. I would recommend this tour to anyone who relishes a long tough hike. It was so mush more than claiming four 4000m peaks!

Challenging, exciting and thoroughly enjoyable.
Family Teenage Toubkal Ascent, Morocco
While my daughter was disappointed there was no one her age on the holiday due to the current nervousness among holiday-makers about destinations such as Morocco, the holiday was a great success. For my family I wanted a holiday which made memories and provided new experiences. The local guide was patient and reassuring, the planning was faultless, the food excellent while the trek itself was satisfactorily challenging for the kids who came away with an enormous sense of achievement. As a single mother I was nervous about negotiating my way around Essaouira and Marrakesh and it wasn't without its challenges but incredibly rewarding all the same. I think we all grew several inches in terms of self-esteem by the end of the trip!

Exhilarating combination of top-class walking plus Inca excitement.
Choquequirao to Machu Picchu
This is a seriously good and demanding trek and, the modifications to the route over the last 12 months generally improve it, by making it a little less punishing, though it was disappointing that the walk down the side of river on the last day is not possible owing to land slips. Maybe we were lucky but our food was outstanding and Peruvian cuisine generally is of a high standard so much better than Nepal and Bhutan for example. We hadn't expected this. We voluntarily chose to eat vegetari an but the omnivores definitely ate better with no concerns about health. Only criticisms would be that the stools in the Dining Tent lacked seat backs (quite handy when you just want to relax) and that the trekking tents were quite compact.

an immensely satisfying way of spending 10 days in the high mountains of Europe
Ultimate Tour du Mont Blanc
This is the only way to do the TMB, and you could not get a better guide than Chris to lead you. Apart from getting round 180k and 14k of up and down, I now know more Alpine weeds than ever. And what guide could reliably lead you to edelweiss? he even managed to conjour up a few ibex to order! Seriously, this is a reasonably tough trek but very doable even for a 65yo given enough determination. Immensely rewarding with views to die for. Chris was brilliant; would love to do another trek with him . Packed lunches were the only sub standard aspect, especially from hotel in La Fouly. Given the degree of exertion you need to supplement with lots of energy bars or equivalent to take on enough fuel for some very long days. KE should be much more specific on what should be provided and ensure sufficient calorie content. But still memorable.

Fabulous views, a hidden gem!
Secret Switzerland - Tour des Combins
Very well organised by KE as ever. The huts were wonderful and the trails quiet. This is a beautiful trek. We barely saw anyone else the whole way round. Food in the evenings was always plentiful and the picnic lunches surprisingly large. Plenty of time in the late afternoons to relax. Elaine was a fantastic guide and very responsive to the needs of the group. 4 days of great Alpine weather, 2 days of intermittent rain. Do take a world wide charger as you can charge phones/batteries in the huts the whole way round(3 pin Swiss adaptor needed). The outdoor shower at the Panossière has a view of the glacier to die for.

This was our first KE trip and exceeded our expectations
Best of the Tour du Mont Blanc
The trip was well organized and our guide was knowledgeable, experienced, and very much focused on interacting with the participants to make sure we had a good trip. The hotels were very nice and the meals much better than anticipated. For some reason, the Yeti did not have us arriving on Sunday evening but instead did not expect us until Monday morning. This was inconsistent with our confirmed plans and would not make any sense since we would have missed the start of the trip. However, they wer e able to accomodate us without problem. We did have one issue on the trail when we had to abort the day due to severe thunder and lightIng storms. It appears the office did not want to pay for transportation from the reffuge and we had to walk several hours to,a main road to catch a taxi. I think KE can do better then this in contingency plans. None the less, overall it was a great trip and definitely will consider KE for future trips.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for letting us know you found the holiday well organized with very nice hotels and meals better than expected. We apologise for any confusion on your arrival at Yeti Lodge and are pleased that the staff were able to resolve this without any problem. On the day you were trekking the Bovine Route we understand you experienced an isolated storm approximately one hour into the walk. Your group leader called to request an earlier transfer for the group and followed the best contingency option which was to descend directly to the Martigny-Champex road. We understand you were picked up within 10 minutes of reaching the road. We are pleased you had a great trip overall.
