Golden Hills of Burma
Golden Hills of Burma
This was an excellent trip combining walking, sights and culture. The itinerary gets the balance rights and was just what we were hoping for. Our guide Sai was superb. His energy, enthusiasm and knowledge were undimmed throughout the trip. The country is coming out of a long period of military rule and is not tarnished by the kind of tourism that has affected more "developed" parts of SE Asia. The people are friendly, open and interested in visitors. However, it was Sai who brought thi s to life; we would not have had such a rich experience without him.

Yallah ( lets go) - Oman, a Trekker's paradise
Oman Adventure Trekking
Jagged Mountains, Wadis and the desert are all part of a magical geological landscape in Oman. I watched beautiful sunrises, sunsets and of course, amazing stars. I am very thankful to Wafa, our guide and her support team. Wafa took me under her wings, and within one week thanks to her, I became an experienced Trekker and Scrambler 'thank you Wafa', it is an unforgettable holiday for me. Swimming in stunning Wadis and an incredible (not on the original itinerary) but an experience not be missed, a trip in the desert. We had wonderful food and packed lunches produced nightly by Wafa and her support team, especially the trail mix which Wafa made up for everyone in the group. The group was very supportive and really, thank you everyone who was part of this trip.

Holiday of a lifetime!
Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
I went on this holiday at the end of September, and I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences of my life. Walking through the Sungate and seeing Machu Picchu for the first time made all those steps worth it!
The trek is tough in places but not impossible, and you see some amazing views on the way! The guide and porters were amazing, not forgetting the Chef, who cooked some amazing food!
Cusco is also an amazing city, and I am so glad I had a day at the start of the ho
liday to explore it for myself! I would recommend getting a full pass for various attractions, although only if you're prepared to have a pretty none stop day! The guide also recommended visiting the market in Cusco. which is an authentic market where people from Cusco buy their food. Worth a visit!
All in all an amazing holiday, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a mix of city and outdoors and needs a break from the norm!

Great location but room for improvement
From the Pacific to the Caribbean
There are few holidays which enable you to swim in two great oceans in one holiday. This is a verdant and beautiful part of the world where the warm weather was reflected in the warmth of local people. The itinerary was packed with some amazing experiences but perhaps too much time in the minibus...particularly for a multi-activity based holiday. The kayaking experiences were great and the visit to the Mayan site in Copan, Honduras was magical although rushed. We had a spectacular transit from N icaragua into El Salvador, by boat, with a fantastic seafood lunch, en route - this was a highlight. The accommodation did not always reflect what was advertised. A beach front hotel did not always transpire as such. The guide's level of English resulted in poor communication and was often incomprehensible so we missed out or could not comprehend important and interesting information about the locations and places of interest on our itinerary. I think this holiday could be improved and I would like to see more activity, more walking to explore the stunning subtropical forests, with more opportunity to view wildlife.

Bucket list holiday which didn't disappoint!
Arctic Wilderness Week Finland
This is a trip which my wife and I always wanted to go on. We've recently returned and i have to say it was first class. The hotel was in a great location and was really lovely. The staff were very helpful and the food and service in their restaurant was first rate. My wife is a veggie but they made some excellent meals for her and i ate a lot of the meat on offer. What made this holiday special was the trips. The snowmobiling is good fun and the snowshoeing is ok. The hotel is also a t the top of a ski slope but you will have done all the slopes in a morning even if you are a beginner but its a nice break on your day off. The best thing is the huskies. You get taken out to a farm where there are about 80 huskies. we shared a sledge for the first two days and on the third day we were in control of our own sledge with our own dogs. I can't explain how much fun it was being with the digs and then stopping for a picnic which was sausages, soup and toasties over a camp fire in the middle of a snowy forest. It's amazing. We stayed out in a lodge which was a really nice idea. We cut out an ice hole and retrieved our own water so that the group of us could cook and fire up the sauna! It was a bucket list holiday which didn't disappoint. We even saw the northern lights on the last night. No special kit is required because they give you everything but we would recommend packing walking and skiing kit (especially base layers) to keep you warm. Ideal for couples or families - it's a wonderful trip!

Wonderful, well-orgainsed trip to a stunning location
Trails of the Amalfi Coast
We arrived in a village near Amalfi and we were treated to a wonderfully authentic time. Great food and friendly atmosphere and a lovely location. Amalfi itself was quite touristy and busy so we were pleased to be just outside. The guide (Rosa) was excellent. We walked most days except for the day when we went around Vesuvius and Pompeii. The walking was not difficult and the days were relatively short. This is a trip for almost all abilities. We has a lovely walk in the morning, then a f resh picnic and then finished off in a touristy location such as Ravello, Positano or Amalfi. The day trip was well organised and allowed us plenty of time to explore. We actually tagged on a couple of days in Naples which is worthwhile because its a pretty city and allows you time to see their old town, port area and Herculaneum. All in all, a great holiday and excellent value.

Remarkable trip to Jordan: trekking in Wadi Rum and Petra
Jordan's Wadi Rum and Petra

Amazing trip to Jordan, exploring the desert of Wadi Rum and Petra. Beautiful landscapes, extremely welcoming and friendly people: spending time hiking and camping with Bedouins was just an amazing experience.

Tour leader Nader was excellent in organizing our days and provide additional insight into the history and culture of this remarkable country. Great job!

Petra was great, as well was the hike to biblical summit of Jebel Haroun.

Overall an truly stunning experience!

fantastic trekking
Ethiopia, Simien Mountains Trek & Lalibela
stunning scenery, amazing wildlife including being surrounded by a troop of baboons and a sighting of a rare Ethiopian wolf. Summiting Ras Dashen was a particular highlight as the sheer effort of a long days hike and a scramble to the top made it a true achievement and to be welcomed back to base camp by a village reception party made it all the more special.
Incredible guides and staff lead by the incomparable Filemon and Djerba(?) along with an amazing chef, Casa and his assistants Bant
i and Santi made for an informative and enjoyable experience.
To top all this off,I as fortunate enough to be joined by great fellow adventurers who made for a fantastic Christmas and New Year.
I would highly recommend this trip to anyone !

Full of variety
Hill Tribe Trails and Highlights of North Vietnam
This was a wonderful trip and full marks to KE for devising a trek away from the crowds (we saw no other tourists for five days) and one which would be so difficult to do independently. The walking through a pastoral landscape of farmsteads and villages was fascinating and the homestays, though simple, were all very welcoming. Thanh was an excellent leader, full of stories and keen to explain everything Vietnamese. As we've come to expect with KE, all the hotel and travel arrangements worke d meticulously. We enjoyed the free time in Hanoi to see the sights we wanted to see and of course the old town is just ideal for casual exploration. Ha Long Bay was outstanding. It was so nice to have a boat to ourselves and with fine food, perfect weather and, not least, such good company from one of the most harmonious groups we've travelled with, it made a fine finish.

Wonderful exploration and discovery of NW area India which had 'called' to me.
Hill Stations & Houseboats of Kashmir
Was very well taken care of by the ground agents whilst travelling as an independent after group booking was cancelled. Left feedback with them as requested before leaving Delhi regarding specific hotels/guides etc. Couple of glitches during the trip down to outside forces and totally out of control of KE/agents but taken care of wonderfully by the Indian personnel over there looking after me, both by the people 'one the spot' at the time and the team in Delhi which was constantly in t ouch with the local guides etc. throughout. Actually made the trip even more enjoyable and a real adventure! In most locations not was I the only western woman but the only westerner full stop. Felt very safe. Everyone locally was so friendly, treated me so nicely and I made memorable contacts and experiences. And to top it all was very healthy throughout - I only eat Indian food when there/which was great! I can't wait to visit India again. go back to India.

Amazing scenery in a remote & special part of Morocco
Jebel Sahro Walking Holiday
Thisis an amazing 4 days of trekking, through wild scenery of wind-eroded volcanoes and deep ravines. You won't meet another soul - unless it's a lady herding goats - a rael chance to "get away from it all." Tips 1) You won't get a bowl of hot water in the mornings as with other camping trips - water is too scarce 2) You need very little spending money - maybe £40 on tips and a drink/snack if you arrive early on 1st day. (You can't spend dharma in the Duty Free - e xcept a few small outlets) so don't exchange too much 3) You don't need water purification tablets - water is bought just before you get to the homestead in Tagdelt 4) The homestead is VERY basic, with two uni-sex rooms. 5) 90% of the paths are copvered in stones/boulders, or are in river valleys - this is tough walking

Shame about the guide
Edge of the Sahara Trek
This was an interesting trip that could have been a lot better. The hotels in Marrakech were both out of town, and the beds were both uncomfortable. Our guide was, unfortunately, the worst guide I have ever had, and having been on about 10 adventure holidays, nine of which were guided well, this was very disappointing. Our guide did not give us proper briefs and spent very little time talking to us, preferring to talk to the cook and camel headers. The food was good, (the cook did well) though w e became bored of couscous and tagine and it was a shame to have it again, in a particularly low quality restaurant, on our last day in Marrakech. If you decide to go on this trip, make sure you ask the guide to make you to a good restaurant on the last night. The view of the stars at night was superb, the camping was fun and the view from the large sandmen we climbed was superb. Take lots of high factor sunscreen and warmer clothes for the cold evenings.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review and for the great photos. The hotels you used in Marrakech are located approximately 15 minutes walk from the main square and although there are closer options, these can be noisy in the evenings. We were surprised to read that you were disappointed with your guide, as Hassan normally receives excellent feedback and is usually keen to share his enthusiasm and knowledge of his country. As well as being responsible for your safety and the smooth running of your trip, KE expects all its leaders to be active members of the group and we will be emphasising this aspect of leadership at our next annual guides training course in Marrakech. At the end of a great holiday the last night's meal should be special. We have a list of recommended restaurants in Marrakech, although we would not want to completely rule out our guides' local knowledge when deciding the best venue for a particular group. It was gratifying to read that you enjoyed various aspects of the holiday such as the food on trek, your desert camps under Saharan night skies and the views from the dunes.

Disappointing
Hill Tribe Trails and Highlights of North Vietnam
This was our 4th KE trip and unfortunately failed to live up to the standards we have come to expect. Firstly the itinerary had quite a few differences in it although we are not sure whether this is the fault of the itinerary or of our guide. For example, Day 6 - we did not trek over the 2000m summit, Day 8 - the market is not on in Bac Ha on a Saturday, Day 11 - we did not visit a floating village and the bike ride was just over 1 hour at the slowest pace possible, Day 12 - there was no option for kayaking, Day 13 - we did not take a small fast boat to explore the bay. Some of this may have been down to our guide however - Lun - who was quite frankly, awful. He took no interest in the clients, he seldom stayed with the group, and the only conversation he made was to advise the time for meals. We met an alternative guide on the transfer to the airport to come home - Thanh - and we learnt more about Vietnam from Thanh in 45 minutes than we did from Lun in 2 weeks. My advice would be to avoid this trip if Lun is leading it

Thank you for your review. We enjoyed reading your excellent recent reviews of 'Jiri to Everest Base Camp' and also cycling the 'Backroads of Cambodia', so were disappointed that your experiences in Vietnam did not meet your expectations from those trips.  Your guide, Hoang Van Lun, has received great feedback from clients on the 'Vietnam North to South' tour and we are not sure what happened to make him so disengaged from the group on your trip. However, we will be making a full investigation with our agent and will respond directly to you regarding the individual points you have raised.

Well planned, authentic experience
Winter Sunshine Walking in the Jebel Sahro - Morocco
Well organised, authentic experience, well within the capabilities of any fit walker- the optional peaks are rough but straightforward and worth the effort for the views. Some beautiful scenery from day three onwards (the first two days are a little dull, with lots of walking on dried up riverbeds) culminating in a fabulous day on Amalou Mansour. Hassan, our excellent guide was an interesting and informative man with a wide knowledge of the area and of Moroccan history and its people. Our mulete ers were a great bunch, and Abdul, the chef, excelled himself with a wide variety of meals. With the exception of the first campsite, which is a bit grim and on the outskirts of a village, the others were in idyllic locations, though the toilet tent takes a bit of getting used to, and most people made their own arrangements behind a rock! The other trekkers in my group were without exception, committed and interesting people, and with good weather and good company, this was a trip to remember! It can be very cold at night, so take a down jacket, and a good head torch with lots of spare batteries for reading during the long hours of darkness.

Stunning country and magnifcent volcanoes
Guatemala's Magnificent Seven

First time I have used KE and extremely satisfied with the organization, from both the UK operations and the in-country team. Walking was challenging - because of the sheer altitudes to be climbed on a daily basis - from village level all the way to the summit including the requirement to acclimatize. Sunrises and sunsets were awesome! Volcanoes were very active - consider taking a tripod to capture night time volcanic activity of Fuego, for example.
