An unforgettable outstanding week!

Family Adventures in the Algarve

This holiday was truly an unforgettable week that exceeded our family’s expectations. Our hosts Jon and Violetta are incredible people who clearly love what they do and enjoy sharing it with their guests. They are a joy to be around and they made all aspects of the holiday special. They (and their team of helpers) were all so welcoming and they were really great with all the kids. The farm accommodation is set in a valley nestled among cork trees. Each cottage is lovingly decorated with their ... own en suite. We barely used the en suite shower because there is the most awesome outdoor African shower with a sunny nature view. The kids loved the onsite “big swing” and the lake with its zipwire. The activities were all a lot of fun and challenged everyone to exactly the right level. Nobody felt held back or pushed too far. Jon went out of his way to look after everyone. With rock climbing, if you wanted to make it to the top, that was great. If you wanted to go up just a bit, that was fine too. We surfed, body boarded, kayaked, hiked and biked all on different days and everyone really enjoyed all the activities and they were well balanced with the needs of the group. Violetta and her team in the kitchen cooked up the most delicious meals with fresh ingredients and variety and plenty of it. Every meal was superb and made with attention to care and detail. By the end of the week, it felt like saying good-bye to family and there were more than a couple wet eyes. It was a wonderful experience meeting the other families and their children. I could not recommend this holiday more highly. Hints/Tips: evenings can be cool and breezy so bring enough long sleeves which I didn't! The evening watching the sunset is colder than you'd expect and the rocks are a pain in the backside. I'd bring something soft to sit on like a beach towel next time.

Fell in love with Romania

Walking through Timeless Transylvania

This was my first KE trip and, even though I was blatently the least fit person ever to go on a walking holiday, the places we visited were so beautiful it was worth the effort! We went from idyllic rolling hills and meadows full of wildflowers to forbidding mountain peaks reaching up into the clouds - it was magical. The people were lovely as well and a real highlight was our wonderful guide Dan, who combined being informed about everything you could possibly want to know with being incredibly ... nice and funny as well - oh, and did I mention he saved us from wild boars? Truly the best guide in a fantastic country - go now and go with Dan!

Lovely scenery and people

Walking through Timeless Transylvania

We had a lovely time walking through wildflower meadows and up hills. Would not say this was a leisurely walk but very enjoyable. The highlight was the homestay in Viscri and the hospitality of the local people and getting to find out about the local crafts. Horse and cart ride to BBQ and BBQ itself also fun. Good walking country, and the Saxon villages, castles and Peles Palace all very memorable

AMAZING RANGE OF EXPERIENCES

Kenyan Wildlife Wonders - Family Safari Adventure

This was a once in a lifetime holiday - a brilliant mix of safari and beach with some amazing walks thrown in for good measure. The guides are brilliant with the kids and made it all work so well. The only slight negative is that there is a fair amount of travelling between the various places but to be honest, you wouldn't get the range of experiences without the travel so with some audio books on iPods the kids were ok. The accommodation and food varies throughout the trip but that is because ... you go from the wild camp to a guest house to a 5* lodge in Tsavo!! All brilliant and Zanzibar was the perfect way to end the trip. Loved it and so did the kids, so many memories.

Brilliant from start to finish

Road Cycling Tour of Corsica

From meeting at the airport to the farewell at Bastia it was an excellent cycling, destination and personal experience. Having previously cycled France on an organised self guided tour as well as a fully supported tour the KE tour in Corsica took it to another level. The organisation was faultless, the refuelling food, drink and lunch stops were more than ample, tasty with quality nutrition and the accommodation was a blend of authentic rustic to 5 star luxury, all of which were well chosen for ... location, cleanliness and breakfasts and dinners. The combination of a guide, Mandy who rode with us, and Thea, the van driver who prepared our snacks and lunches as well as transporting our luggage, was a contributing factor to the seamless enjoyment of a great week. The daily ride distances and difficulties were challenging but not too difficult. I was tired at the end of every day but able to front up and enjoy the next. I have no hesitation in booking another tour with KE or referring anyone looking for a similar experience. I have made some great friends and hopefully we can keep in contact and catch up/ride again. Incredible week on the big Italian Summits

Italian Summit Climber

An incredible trip for the novice (but fit) mountaineer. Our guide Kathy had a vast amount of experience and was able to give us countless tips and information throughout our expedition. Sleeping and walking at altitudes in excess of 4000m is tough, take plenty of paracetamol and ibuprofen for headaches. I found this helped massively. In terms of food - you won't go hungry! Most rifugios (or huts) serve up a classic Italian 4 course meal every night and the quality was incredible given the ... remoteness and number of mouths to feed. They also do good lunches so budget around €10-15 for these. As the packing lists suggest take a mixture of clothes suitable for hot and snowy conditions. We had all sorts of weather for blistering sunshine to blizzards, so I ended up wearing everything! Getting to Staffal is definitely a mission. Allow for around 6 hours at least. Busses only leave Malpensa to Novara every hour and then it's 2 or 3 trains to Pont-Saint-Martin and then the last bus up the valley to Staffal only leaves approx every 3 hours. The other option is to fly into Turin which we discovered was much closer and is also well connected, something not mentioned in the KE Trip Notes. Overall this was a truly memorable week, spent in fantastic company, in wonderful alpine settings and sleeping in the highest mountain huts of Europe!

Tough but Rewarding

Ultimate Tour du Mont Blanc

Excellent French guide Food and accommodation better than expected Yeti Lodge a delight Views of the Mont Blanc Massif outstanding Pace a little fast, making the trek more gruelling than it needed to be, but then we had a super fit group. Not for the feint hearted; don't underestimate the rigour of the walk; but a very memorable experience and not be missed.

very enjoyable holiday

The Pyrenees on Foot Walking Holiday

Overall, I really enjoyed this holiday. The guide Cyril was very kind, helpful and knowledgeable about the local area, flora and fauna. The area was beautiful. Being about to visit the local thermal baths was an added bonus. I had two difficulties about this holiday. The first was that I was the only English speaker in the group. This could pose a problem for some people.The guide Cyril had good English and ensured that I was included in what was happening. However, I found the social side of ... the holiday difficult which was a pity as I was a solo holiday-maker. I was not informed of this in advance by KE Adventure. The second aspect that I was disappointed about was the transfer arrangement at the end of the holiday. The documents from KE said that the transfer would coincide with the flights to London. My flight left before those flights so I had to book an additional night's accomodation in Toulouse. As I was the only client leaving by plane, I am disappointed that KE did not offer to transfer me earlier. I have already contacted KE about these two concerns. Potential clients should perhaps enquire if there will be other English speakers on the group and also if the transfer arrangements could be adjusted if necessary.

With regard to other nationalities on the tour, we advertise this holiday as part of our Explore International range. Participants on these trips can book through KE or through one of our international partners. This helps us to gather together sufficient numbers of like-minded adventurers to get your holiday up and running quickly. Explore International trips are conducted in English and are led by an English-speaking guide so would normally only attract English speakers regardless of nationality. We include one group airport transfer which helps to keep the price of the holiday down for everyone. We time this to suit the majority of arrivals/departures and we are sorry that this was not convenient for the departure time of your flight to Dublin.

Very good weeks hard walking , blessed by sunny weather and excellent guide

Best of Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn

Much harder walking than I anticipated but managed to keep with the group (as did my wife- I am 58 yrs and my wife is 54 - both very active cycling/running/walking dogs , we have been walking in the Alps before several times including TMB). Elaine was an excellent guide who managed a small group very well throughout, didn't make things sound worse than they could be or sugarcoat the has hilly bits ( said exactly how things were ahead on the route and predicted walking time /distances spot on). ... My wife was the only other female in the group and found Elaine a good friend throughout. Trip was basically through Switzerland and I found that Euros were acceptable throughout (even in mountain Cabins), so I needn't have changed my large amount of Euros (from a skiing holiday earlier in the year )into swiss francs as advised by KE. Switzerland is a lot more expensive than when we visited 3 years ago !

We would not necessarily recommend that you change Euros into Swiss Francs for this trip, but if changing money from pounds or dollars, it makes sense to take Swiss Francs.

Adventure of a Lifetime

K2 and Concordia

This was one of the best adventure vacations of our life, thanks to KE and their staff. It was a trip we will remember forever, We could not have asked for a better leader than Tom Richardson, who has 30+ years of mountaineering, guiding and trekking experience in the Karakorum mountains. Tom always kept the group and crew safe in a treacherous region (on glacier and landslide probe cliffs), ran the trek efficiently while accounting for individual paces and interests, and was full of knowledge ... about the local history and culture. The local crew including the leaders (Mohammad Khan, Ibrahim 1), kitchen staff (Ibrahim 2 et al.) and porters (Ali et al.) were all the cream of the crop. Everything including morning tea, breakfast, camp wind-up, picnic lunches camp set-up, afternoon snacks and tea, and dinner were executed flawlessly without any delay or hiccups. We were fed delicious meal after meal, our tent locations were always the best at the campsites, and it was a joy to get to the campsite after each tiring day with the tent already set up and our bags outside. We were particularly impressed when some of us were late for lunch a few times, and the kitchen crew hiked back 1/2 - 1 hour with warm tea and snacks. With Tom and 2 local guides (MK and Ibrahim), we could count on individual attention during the difficult trek whenever needed. With an excellent support team, we could focus our attention on the spectacular scenery around us. The Karakorum mountains were unlike any other region in the world we have trekked in over the years. The raw forces of nature are very much in evidence everywhere with wild rivers, gigantic glaciers, steep shapely mountains, and vast ice/snow-fields. Every day's trek brought us to new mountains (the Trango group, Masherbrum, Gasherbrums, K2 etc.) which were more captivating than the ones we had seen earlier. Concordia truly lived up to it's title of 'Throne room of the mountain gods' and we still vividly remember the 360 degree panorama of gigantic peaks and glaciers around our campsite there. We were blessed with excellent weather throughout the trek, with cloudless views of K2 on the day of our departure from Concordia. An excellent trip in every way

Mount Triglav Weekend - Slovenia

The minute we were met at the airport we had a feeling that this would be a good walk. Miha, our guide for the short trip, was a relaxed and informative man who spoke excellent English and did everything he could to make us feel welcome and looked after and he genuinely seemed to enjoy our company. He was passionate about his job, the mountains and his country and was a credit to KE. The walk itself was lovely, through some of the most picturesque countryside I have seen, starting off in ... woodland and finishing in the spectacular Julian alps. The summit climb was tough with a degree of technicality but well within our abilities and Miha looked after us well making sure we were briefed and trained on the use of our harnesses and that we stayed safe but still enjoyed the climb. Once back from the Summit we stopped briefly at the refuge for lunch before walking down to the transport. Miha took us back a different way, down through some beautiful pastures with a very traditional Alpine feel, all with the Alps as the back drop to the trees and meadows and a constant reminder of our recent climb. The first nights' accommodation was basic but clean, the refuge again was basic but clean and the final hotel, the Astoria, was very nice, clean well presented air-conditioned rooms with great facilities and a fabulous breakfast. All in all a great trip and one I would certainly consider doing again. Challenging but very rewarding.

A secret mountain paradise in Europe

it felt sometimes when hiring on the pastures towards the Peaks that I was in a paradise with cows, wild mountain goats, vultures and sheep. a couple of days we were completely alone up in the high pastures and mountains and it felt a real adventure. the pace was challenging enough but it still gave us plenty of time to take in the beauty of the landscape.

Beautiful Romanian Walking Holiday

Timeless Transylvania walking holiday was the most beautiful, peaceful, fun and fantastic holiday. From the most chilled UNESCO village of Viscri, where we got to watch the cows taking themselves home every night to the peaks above the Transfargarasan highway, Romania was completely captivating. Our local guide Dan was a total delight and we all adored him. The castles of Bran and Peles are just stunning, the wild flower meadows are chocolate box picturesque and the local people are so friendly ... and welcoming. We LOVED Romania and are extremely happy with this holiday X

Stunning scenery and fantastic hikes in a serene setting

La Gomera - Jewel of the Canaries

This was my first trip with KE and my first visit to the Canaries. It did not disappoint. La Gomera is a fascinating island, both naturally and historically. The hikes were varied, and the scenery was superb. I was accompanied by a fantastic group of people but the real gem was our guide, Enekoiz (Ene). He was professional, knowledgeable, and passionate about the island. Tips: Bring layers because some accommodation does get cold at night. If you are gluten intolerant you will be well catered. ... If you think you are going to lose weight on this trip you won't because the food is excellent and the portions are hearty :)

A fantastic high Alpine week, with a great itinerary and lots of variety.

Italian High Level Route

This was a great intro to the Zermatt - Monte Rosa area including some 4000m summits and giving excellent experience for walking roped up and using winter skills with axe and crampons. The mountain huts were of a very high standard with good food! We had an excellent guide in Kathy Murphy, who was very experienced and dealt with any safety of group issues very efficiently. The itinerary is great, and gives lots of variety, and this certainly makes one want to come back for more. KE could have ... been a bit more upfront about the considerable extra costs involved in getting to Zermatt, as the list price for the trip of £1295 was very reasonable, but in reality, the actual cost was nearer £1700 by the time one had paid for the train travel on Swiss railways, cable cars and the meals not included.

For the Italian High Level Route, train fares from Geneva Airport are given in the section on 'Joining arrangements and transfers' and the approximate cost of cable cars and non-included meals can be found in the section on 'Spending Money'.
