Amazing walking, stunning scenery, excellent food!
Walking Wild Tuscany
This walking holiday is perfect for walkers who want more than a stroll in the park but don't want the more challenging, roughing it type of walking. My advice would be to read the walking notes carefully, the information is all there and accurate. Some of the walks are long, hard and challenging but achievable for the fit and able. There is a couple of scrambling sections and ridge walking. The scenery is stunning as a very mountainous region (not your typical rolling hills and cypress trees as sociated with Tuscany). We had poor weather all week with only one sunny dry day, one day's walking was cancelled as extremely poor weather with low visibility. The remaining days were changeable so be prepared with wet weather gear. The food is outstanding and a highlight both at lunch time on the mountain and in the evenings. I was a single traveller and found the mix of people good. There were 11 walkers, 3 couples and 5 single travellers so didn't feel left out. The accommodation is very good and quite remote, once you are there you are there! Trip into Lucca on free day was perfect. The old city is quite compact and just the right size for a day visit. We went as a group by train and were provided with all the information we needed making it an easy option. The hosting and guiding was excellent. Most of us felt challenged by some of the walking which meant we also felt very achieved at the end of a great day's walk. I really loved this holiday and would certainly look at something similar again.

Excellent introduction to hiking the Alps
Best of the Tour du Mont Blanc

This tour offers professional guiding along the route, excellent accommodation, and good food, in a small group, for a week-long experience of the Mont Blanc massif. Note the elevations and distances in the detailed itinerary, as they may be more challenging than the overall difficulty rating might suggest.

Fantastic scenery, good walks, food & great weather
Sacred Summits of Olympus and Meteora
What a fantastic weeks holiday. The town of Kastraki where we stayed the first 2 nights is beautiful & quiet, plenty of places to go for walks & plenty of places to eat in the evenings. The guesthouse we stayed is very nice, friendly & perfectly placed. The meteor Monasteries which sit on top of rocks are amazing. We visited 2 of them, only €2 entry, men can wear shorts & t-shirts, ladies have to wear a wrap around there legs, these are free at the entrance. The views from the Monasteries are spectacular & the inside of them are very interesting. The walks to them are steep in places with loose rock but very manageable. The morning walk before we leave is mainly on the steep road then goes in to woods. At the top again views are fantastic. The journey to Litochoro is about 2 1/2 hours, lunch was down by the beach. Our next guesthouse is again fantastic, the walk to the restaurant is about 15 mins & the food is plentiful. The start of the trek upto the 1st hut on Mt Olympus is about 3 hours mainly in the trees can be quite steep in places with loose rock. The hut is ok, you stay in dorms, the food is good & does get very busy. If weather is clear you will get a beautiful view of the sunrise. The trip to the top of Mt Olympus took good 3 to 4hours with some very steep parts again with loose rock, but worth it when you reach the 1st summit. From here you can take a path which is more difficult but doable & again worth it. The walk to the next hut is about 3 hours. This hut is a lot smaller with sleeping up stairs, food again is good, however the toilet here is outside & a short walk. The walk back to the 1st hut is about 3 hours as the path quite exposed , plenty loose rock, uneven steps, but is very doable. The walk back down to where we left the van is the same way we came up. From the van their is a walk back to the guesthouse which is about 6 miles & can be done in just over 3 hours at good pace, despise the up & down in high heat. Overall i would recommend this holiday.

Beautiful Balkans
High Peaks of the Balkans
Have done previous trips with KE and this was another highly enjoyable adventure. Although the trek is relatively short, it was none the less somewhat challenging, with four long days of walking. Our local guide, Ardit, was excellent, taking great care of us all and very knowledgeable. To summit the three peaks required no technical ability, just plenty of stamina, especially in the heat we encountered in August. Overall the accommodation and food were very good, with the hotel in Kosovo being o f high standard. Albania was a nice country to visit, with lovely scenery and friendly people. Go soon before it becomes too touristy. Would highly recommend this trip.

Fabulous holiday with a bit of everything
Trek Malawi's Mount Mulanje & South Luangwa
I thoroughly enjoyed this trip to Malawi and Zambia. With its winning combination of wildlife safaris, hiking and then chill out time at Lake Malawi at the end, it was hard not to love it. Everything was proportioned right e.g enough time with the wildlife, and enough time hiking and so on. The guide was very professional and knowledgeable, and the mountain guides/trekking team, superb. Malawian people are lovely, and like to give great service. In terms of tips for other travellers, I'd say tha t it might be worth taking a couple extra layers over and above what they put on the kit list as it can get a bit cold on the mountain. Also, gloves for the summit day - you're scrambling practically all the way up and the rock sort of grates your hands after a while.

Very tough, but rewarding
Geneva to Nice Road Cycle
Well organised trip. Paul Morgan and Amanda Davenport did a very good job. Paul was endlessly helpful and Amanda was obviously a very experienced cyclist. Weather made it very tough on days 2,3 and 4, but thereafter the picnics by the side of the road were enjoyable. Only things that detracted from the trip - not being to bring bike in a hard case, the breakfasts were a bit weak on some mornings (given that we were regularly using over 2,000 calories) and the cycle 7km up the hill to Auron at th e end of Day 7 seemed an un-necessary burden on already tired legs. Good group of fellow cyclists who all all kept smiling throughout. PS Please can you email me a copy of the Day 3 Route Map - I saved all the rest from the trip but have lost Day 3. Derek McKenzie

Beath taking trip, service and views.
Choquequirao to Machu Picchu
Absolutely amazing trip, if I could give 10 stars I would. Reuben our main guide and Moises are the most lovely and brilliant guides, always smiling and expertly guiding us. They were both so lovely and full of knowledge!! We had the best tour guides!! All the service was unfaultable. The food was just incredible- you find yourself eating a restaurant quality 4 course meal most days. The staff were just absolutely lovey- I still don’t understand how they have the energy to complete the same tr ek before even starting to work, doing literally everything for us. the hot towels and tea every morning and hot water bottles were such extra special little things which made a massive difference to our experience. Although the trek and altitude was hard, it was 10000% worth it, with the feeling of accomplishment and views being breath taking. Bring extra deet though as the mosquitos are particularly annoying and extra money as the food and merchandise in Peru is so hard to resist!!

Wow, what a fantastic holiday on the Amalfi Coast!
Trails of the Amalfi Coast
Wonderful holiday. Great walking amongst fabulous scenery, amazing wild flowers, butterflies, trees, lizards and some beautiful gardens too. Great geology with the trip to Vesuvius and the wonderful limestone of the Amalfi Coast. Our guide, Adriano, was so knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble as he good humouredly sorted out all our little foibles and problems ; we were privileged to have him as our guide. Our holiday was centred at San Lazaro, so be prepared for some interesting bus j ourneys on the steep and narrow Amalfi Coast road which switchbacks its way up to the limestone plateau where San Lazaro is situated. Also be prepared for lots of steps, both up and down. I have brought home so many happy memories of this really stunningly beautiful holiday.

Great holiday in an interesting place
The Mystics of Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea is a very interesting place to visit. The scenery particularly on the Sepik River is very special. We saw Birds of Paradise both in the local zoo and a couple of different places in the wild. The Goroka festival was much better than I expected with a chance to mingle, speak and photograph the dancers. The stay in the village really gave a taste of local life and people were just so friendly. Our guide Martin was really great, very calm and organised and looked after us all very well. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I would have preferred to have a little more walking in the holiday.

Good mixture of walking and exploring
Walking Croatia's Coast & Mountains

We had a lovely guide, Ilyja, and great accommodation throughout this trip. We had a day and a half of torrential rain so missed one of the walks. Some of the National Parks are more touristy than others but overall a beautiful country and a good combination of mixing walking with exploring.

Wow! Wild unspoilt high mountain trekking as it used to be 25+ years ago
The Ultimate Fann Mountains Trek
If you want to experience wild unspoilt high mountain trekking as it used to be done ago get yourself out to the Fann Mountains. Amazing scenery, virtually no other trekkers, unspoilt trails, mind boggling mountain vistas with mega rock slabs, beautiful lakes, some challenging walking especially on high optional pass day, & almost guaranteed dry sunny hot weather every day. Sightseeing in Samarkand finishes off the trip very nicely; we were just blown away with the majestic buildings with th eir beautiful blue domes, minarets & exquisite ceramic designs.

Reasonably demanding trek through some of the finest alpine scenery
Tour de Monte Rosa
I really enjoyed this trek and particularly liked the fact that there were frequent dramatic changes to the scenery. The mountain peaks in this region are amongst the most impressive in the Alps and include the iconic Matterhorn which is seen close at hand from the Theodulo hut sitting at 3,300M. The views from the many cols we ascended were excellent and occasionally spectacular. The Walser villages/hamlets are absolutley lovely. The hotel accomodation range from good to excellent and the mount ain huts were of a very good standard considering the altitude that many were located at. The food on the trek was usually very good, occasionally excellent and never bad. Our guide, Fran, was excellent and set a pace that was comfortable for the group. The weather on the last few days was wet and unsettled and this rendered the Europaweg too treacherous to tackle because of the high risk of rockfall. Fran gave priority to our safety at all times and was adept at finding worthwhile and interesting alternative routes whenever required. My tips for trekkers considering the Tour de Monte Rosa: - Take care to prepare for the level of fitness required. Most days contained just two 30-45 minute stops and a few short stops to take on board water - Be carefdul not to overload your pack because there is no supporting transport. It should be possible to keep your pack to around 8-9KG excluding water. - Two litres of water should suffice when setting out each day. There are usually good opportunities to replenish water - If you wish to ascend the Breithorn (4165M) after the trek it will be possible to book onto a guided group when you pass through Zermatt about half way round. If you wish to arrive a couple of days early I recommend staying at Saas Fee from where you can take the Alpin Express to Felskin then walk to the Brittania hut giving spectacular glacier views and also of the route from the Mattmark lake you will take on day 1. You can then return fia the trail to Platjen and either walk down to Saa Fee or take the cable car down. All cable cars are free courtesy of the guest card that your hotel will issue you with on arrival. - Most huts and all hotels have facilities for charging batteries though you may have to join a queue to get a socket What was not so good? - The only thing I can recall is the ugly ski development that is occasionally encountered and particularly during the ascent to the Theodulo hut.

Disappointing
Trekking in Georgia and the High Caucasus
Like my trekking companion, I was also disappointed that this trek was not a point to point trek and it was shortened by a full day. We trekked for 2 days, had a day off to visit the fortified village of Mutso, then trekked 2 more days. We received a notice from KEAdventure a few weeks before departing that the trekking route was changed due to recent flooding and trail damage. Our guide informed us that our trekking route was the same as last year due to a landslide a few years ago on the pass we were to cross on day 5, and that it would not likely be open for a few years as it was very dangerous. I enjoyed the hike on day 1, but I would have enjoyed spending more time trekking in the mountains, and less time visiting tourist sights on the final day. On a positive note, the trekking crew looked after us very well. The mountains were very remote and beautiful.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. We are sorry that we were not able to make this a point-to-point trek for your group. As we informed you prior to departure, it was not possible for your group to cross the Tsubrovana Pass due to the poor state of the trail, which had been badly damaged by exceptional amounts of rain. The only option in this event was to drive between the two valleys. You may have misunderstood your guide as previous KE groups have all crossed the Tsubrovana Pass. Last year we had to make a change to the final day of the trek, walking out on the opposite side of the river when landslides had destroyed a footbridge, and we suspect this is what your guide was referring to. We are glad you felt your crew looked after the group very well and you thought the mountains of Georgia were remote and beautiful.

High Tatras Trekking - The Carpathian Mountains

Excellent trip with an expert guide who was very knowlegeable in all aspects of the ecology and history of the region. Everything was well organised despite one change due to weather issues. Beautiful unspoilt scenery in the national park with dramatic lanscape.

Macedonia, where even the tracks are unbeaten.
Macedonia - Off the Beaten Track - Private Cassel
KE Adventure Travels provided an excellent service, although not all the hotels were up to the standard we expected, especially in Skopje and Ohrid. Our guide was excellent, he gave thorough briefings, lead the treks well and was always aware of our different levels of fitness. KE assessed the Macedonian walking holiday as grade 6. It should be emphasised that grade 6 requires a high level of fitness with regular training for least a month before the holiday. The walking and climbing in Macedoni a is superb. The paths are in good condition, the views spectacular and we rarely met any other people on the hills. For me, the highlight of the holiday was on 14th September, with the climb up Mount Magaro followed a swim in the lake and lunch at Ribar restaurant.

Demanding trek with outstanding group
Trekking The Transylvanian Alps
This trip is recommended, with a caveat. First the good--Romania a remarkable country, far more wild and beautiful than I thought. Before this trip I knew nothing about it beyond its gymnasts (think Nadia Comenchi) and an awful cold war dictator. In fact, it is a land of stunning mountains, interesting cities with Western European charm, and very friendly people. We visited castles, an Orthodox monastery. as well mountains soaring 800 vertical meters plus above treeline. The guide was excellent, and the group was as fine a collection of people as one could ask for. Funny, interesting, and supportive of one another. The caveat involves the way trip is laid out. The first full day involved a tram and a moderately difficult walk to a very high and very spartan mountain hut. The next day involved a brutal downhill of over 1800 vertical meters. The following day involved a shuttle to the high mountains, and a tough up and down day with again very steep descents. The next day was a long (10 hour plus) day to the summit of Romania, with a wicked steep rocky descent of roughly 700 vertical meters at the end. Three days in a row of steep descents are absolutely brutal. Many of the group, myself included, could barely negotiate any steps down after that last long day. I have been trekking for decades, and strongly feel it is the downhill, as much as or more than the uphill, that wears you out. Trip also included a stay in Brasov, for two nights, an interesting town for sure. But trip could be rearranged IMHO to have Brasov stay after first brutal downhill, giving trekkers legs bit of a rest, then ending with spectacular two day climb on crest of highest mountains. All in all, trek worth doing, but be forewarned, three consecutive days of extreme downhill not for faint of heart. For this reason, I believe trek merits higher rating on KE numerical difficulty scale.

Unpretentiously excellent trek
High Peaks of the Balkans
Easy flights to an unspoiled and peaceful region . Exceptionally well led by Ardit who was genuinely kind and caring , calm confident and competent .... we felt entirely safe yet free to roam individually and there was a noticeable feeling of space .. sometimes missing on other treks . Accomodation and food was sometimes basic but part of feeling at one with the communities we were joining who were without fail kind, welcoming and friendly . The camping night was great. Weather amazing in Sept , trekking challenging but hugely rewarding . Highly recommended as long as you can forego much relaxation time !

A TRUE ADVENTURE!!!
K2 and Concordia
My sister and I were part of the August trek to K2 base camp, this was a trek we would highly recommend for anyone looking for a real adventure amongst a stunning and intense landscape. We both had an amazing and truly memorable experience in a stunning region of this fascinating country, with the benefit of relatively few tourists compared to other nearby countries. The group was made up of 7 trekkers along with an international and a local guide. The group was great and both guides were excell ent (Ahmed and Jose), we also have to give massive praise to the kitchen crew and team of porters, they were amazing, and couldn’t do enough for you. The food was a mix was western and Asian food which tasted great, though we did feel the packed lunch which was provided on 2-3 of the days was insufficient particularly for the 13 hour day trekking to base camp. The tents were clean and in very good condition. On the return journey to Islamabad our flight from Skardu was cancelled so we made the 2 day journey back to Islamabad by road which was in itself an excellent experience to see more of this beautiful country, if you haven't been to this country before be sure it will surprise you.

Dream trip trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Piccu with the dream team
Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
My wife and I have just returned from our dream trip, trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, I must admit we were a little apprehensive before our trip but as soon as we arrived in Peru the 'Team' there took over and made us feel so at home, from Joseph the charming young man that meet us at the Airport, and the so funny Guide that took us down the Sacred Valley (sorry can't remember his name) to the team that took us on the trek and what a team it was, starting with those tremendous Porters t hat do a superhuman job, to the cook and his assistants that fed us three times a day (plus snacks) with the most delicious food. and finally to our very special Guide Saul Concha who looked after us on every step with his depth of knowledge on almost every subject that we ask him, and his amazing patience. We must also mention the Hotels we stayed in they were if not 5 star very nice and had staff that would do anything for you. So in Summary this was a tremendous trip for us, one we will never forget thanks mainly to the special people that looked after us. Carol & Ian Wilson
