Awesome walking holiday! Beautiful scenery, views well worth the climb!
Chamonix Snowshoe Short Break
Highly recommneded holiday. Mark was a brilliant leader who adjusted the itinerary to meet the abilities of all travellors. We had a fun and energising few days. The walks were at the right pace and length and we were lucky with 2 days of glorious sunshine meaning we really got to enjoy the views. The scenery is amazing and even more beautiful after freshly laid snow. Walking in snow shoes isn't much different to normal walking, but without sinking in the snow! Recommend this to anyone who enjoys walking and snow.

Absolutely Brilliant
Buena Vista Cuba
My group followed The Rolling Stones and Barack Obama to Cuba in April 2016 without all the hullabaloo they incited! This was my first trip with KE and my first holiday alone and I was a bit nervous, but everything went fine. Met our lovely tour guide Amaurice at the airport and he stayed with us to the end; met my fellow travellers and struck lucky again, really nice people and we got on really well. I think we were lucky there were only 4 of us on the trip so we had room to stretch out in the minibuses and getting anywhere with such a small group wasn't onerous. Havana was everything is should be, loud, colourful and vibrant; Pinar del Rio and Vinales was cool, green and educational for the tobacco fields and walks; we went for a walk in the rainforest up in the hills; Santa Clara for the history and Che's monument; Trinidad was like going back in time to see the sugar plantations, and as we had a couple of nights here in a fabulous all inclusive hotel, we were able to spend a day on a catamaran and go to Cayo Blanco for lunch which was utterly fabulous. Things to be aware of : sometimes you have windows in your hotel room, sometimes not. Sometimes the shower is great, sometimes not; sometimes the hotel isn't the best BUT if you forgive the country these miniscule irritations, the country, the history, the people are fantastic. It truly was a trip of a lifetime and I am so glad I went there in 2016, just in case it loses some of its orginality, its heart and its vibrancy in the coming years.

Off-beat, off-road, off-the-scale
Cycle Madagascar - Highlands to the Coast
Once out of the rackety colonial city of Antsirabe, unfrequented roads and rough dirt tracks take you through a succession of spectacular filmsets: Middle Earth with rice paddies, a rainforest teeming with lemurs and chameleons, the American West (with sapphire prospectors and mountains like a mini-Yosemite) and an Indian Ocean beach featuring sail-powered fishing canoes by day and myriad stars by night. You will be welcomed by people who know the uses of standing stones, who steal and sacrifice oxen, who have never seen a movie screen (for there are none in Madagascar) and who take direction from ancestors in their dreams. Local manufactures are demonstrated. Poverty is everywhere, but so too is human dignity and the enjoyment of life. This professionally-run trip, developed over several years by a German settled in Madagascar, offers competent mountain-bikers the opportunity to experience a unique biosphere and culture before large-scale tourism begins. The mountain bikes are of good quality, and excellently maintained. The schedule is flexible, allowing for extra kilometres on the bike or extra time in the support bus. Food and accommodation are at least serviceable, often better. The beach hotel at the end is quite special, and more than makes up for any hardship along the way. I went in March/April and didn't regret it my early-season choice: there were occasional thundershowers, but the flowers were out and we had most of the sites (and some of the hotels) to ourselves. Madagascar, like its people, is in some respects a blend of Africa and Asia. If you are contemplating a bike tour in either continent, you'd be hard pressed to beat this one.

Amazing Experience
Edge of the Sahara Trek

My first true trekking holiday and turned out a great experience. Great Group of people, and an amazing local trek leader Hassan. Already booked my next trip.

Amazing landscapes and Night Skies of the Sahara
Edge of the Sahara Trek

I found this trip to be excellent value and the crew and tour leader really helpful and friendly. Four days walking in the dessert with each one giving a new experience or something unique to see. The only advice I would give is to wear gators to stop the sand running into your walking boots

Great variety of walks made all the more enjoyable by enthusiastic local guides
Walking Undiscovered Tenerife and Pico Teide
The six-day-trip offers a wide variety of walks, some quite hard and others relatively easy. We were based at a homestay in Chio for the first 3 days tackling Pico Teide on days 1 and 2 and the Masca Gorge on day 3. The accommodation was comfortable if quirky, the only downside being one toilet/bathroom for three rooms or six people. As we started the climb of Pico Teide from the Parador Hotel, the ascent to the Refuge was 1,140 meters of climbing, more than enough for one day! The Refuge itself was well equipped and comfortable with dormitory style bunk bed accommodation. The early morning climb took about an hour to the cable car station and from there it was another 45 minutes to the top of Pico Teide. The cable car offers a quick route down for those suffering from tiredness or the altitude. The descent of the Masca Gorge was spectacular, with towering cliffs and a path winding in and out of the rocks at the floor of the gorge. It was possible to swim in the sea at the beach before the boat arrived to take us to Los Gigantes to link up with our minibus. The accommodation in La Laguna, the old capital, was oldy-worldy and classic, and it was a joy to walk around the old streets and take in the atmosphere. Accommodation in La Laguna and later in Santa Cruz, provided an ideal base for exploring the verdant Anaga region. The three walks that we did were not too taxing and each offered spectacular views of the coast line. The common thread throughout the holiday was the enthusiasm and helpfulness of our two guides, Aaron and Cao. They were a pleasure to be with and they went out of their way to make sure that all our needs were catered for.

Fantastic week of walking in gorgeous La Gomera
La Gomera - Jewel of the Canaries

Highly recommend this trip to any walker who wants to get away from it all. Enekoiz (Ene) was our extremely knowledgeable guide & his enthusiasm for the island had us captivated - stories of the ancient forest, devastating fires, traditions, Canarian culture & much more. Ene was briliant. Thank you for an interesting & fun trip!

Private Kalla Group - Mount Toubkal in Winter

Great Walking Experience. The Guides had lots of experience and knowledge, we thoroughly enjoyed the local cuisine (TAGINE) and accommodation along the route. It exceeded our expectation. The Alpine hiking to Summit Toubkal was a mesmerizing experience!!

SOMETHING VERY TASTY IN THE FREEZER
Antarctica Classic Expedition
Good flights from BA/Iberia via Madrid but be prepared for long gap between the next leg to Ushaiai. Journey from the international to the domestic airport in Buenos Aries takes at least an hour. Many of the taxis are powered by LPG,and the gas cylinder takes up a large part of the boot, greatly reducing luggage space. If there are several of you, be prepared to book a large car/Minibus to accommodate your bags.Use Tienda Leon, big official company within the airport terminals. Easy to pay by cred it card (bank is shut if you arrive on the evening flight);use the Post Office credit card(no commission). Ushiaia is a dump, but the BBQ Restaurant serve the best steaks in the known Universe, with wine to match, for silly (low) prices. Hated the thought of cruise ships, but G Adventures Expedition only takes 134 passengers, self selected as lovers of the wilderness. Cabins are dated but clean tidy.Food is superb.Beer is ok and wine is indifferent(avoid the Uruguay ).Max price of reasonable wine: $33US. Beware Drakes Passage:if you are prone to seasickness prepare to spend a couple of nights worshipping the one-eyed toilet god. You need your own waterproof trousers, but they provide wonderfully comfy lined wellies, and a vast quilted parka(which you can keep, and then have to struggle home with). The crew and guide are highly professional and delightful people. Many have worked with G for years. The stops on the itinerary are booked in cooperation with other operators, so there should not be more than ship at a site at one time. The wilderness is staggeringly desolate. The wildlife is prolific: penguins , leopard seals killing penguins, minke, killer and humpback whales.Seals by the hundreds. In between visits ashore, the guides laid on excellent presentations ranging from the role of tectonic plates in the creation of Antarctica to the race between Scott and Amundsen for the Pole. This trip is a gamble: it is entirely weather-dependent.If it is too windy, you cannot go ashore. We were very lucky, and had a variety of dark brooding grey skies(marvellous contrast with he snow) and bright sunshine . Summary: the best way to spend the children's inheritance.Cannot recommend too highly.

Da Da Da!
Bulgarian Snowshoe Adventure

Beautiful parks/mountain scenery. Upscale boutique accommodations. Plenty of snow to play in. "6" rating spot on. A challenging walk each day - but no "death marches." Each destination interesting. Oh, and then there's Bulgaria. European, but different. Ottoman, Greek, uniquely interesting. And did I mention the value? Hope to get back there next year.

Excellent organisation matched by very good luck
Peaks and Valleys of Jebel Sirwa - Morocco
This was the first trek of the year into this area and we didn't see any other travelers just agreeable Berber people. Great temperature for walking, beautiful mountains and negotiable snow fields. There were only two of us on this trek so the level of support was fantastic - it was easy to feel like privileged 19th century lady adventurers. Fortunately my companion and I were well matched and enjoyed each other's conversation otherwise it might have ended badly. The food produced was quite amazing and we stayed well thanks to the cook's conscientious approach to hygiene.

A truly varied walking holiday with fantastic scenery
La Gomera - Jewel of the Canaries
A truly varied walking holiday covering 103 kilometers in 6 days, with 3,875 meters of climbing and 5,900 metersof descent. The laurel forests of the Garajonay are special although quite chilly and damp whilst deep in the forest. The open ridges and other paths catch the sun and make for pleasant walking. All the hotels and meals were of a good standard, although the room in Chipude was quite chilly due to the elevation and the mists. Blankets and a heater were provided. The descent from the res taurant with the glass floor overhang at Mirador de Abrante down to Agulo is firm underfoot but is quite exposed, giving anyone who suffers from vertigo something to think about. The arrangements were in the hands of local guide Enekoiz Rodrigues and he did a brilliant job. Timings, transportation, bag transfer, route scheduling went like clockwork, and Enekoiz took pride in explaining all things local.

Laos GREAT! Cambodia needs some fine tuning.
Beyond the Mekong - Laos and Cambodia
Laos is a wonderful country full of wonderful people. Our guide, Mr. De was superb. He had a teamwork approach to the trip and included all of us in the decision making. He is so connected to his fellow Lao and his love for them and his country came across constantly. The hikes in the back country were a bit challenging but quite interesting and informative. The promised view from the top of our first hike, however, did not materialize. Not his fault. The river trip in the long tail boat was ama zing. Luang Prabang was also fascinating. We had time to explore on our own as well as guided experiences. Would have enjoyed another day there. A suggestion would be to go to Vientiane before Cambodia. There are some Wats there as well. We had been to Cambodia before, so one of the attractions was to see some things that we had missed the first time. Our flight was cancelled between Luang Prabang and Siem Reap (not KE's fault). However that did preclude visiting the places we wanted to see. The hikes were somewhat just walking for the sake of walking. We had a long walk in the Angkor area through a largely uninteresting forest. The one Wat that we came to, we just walked past. This walk took up so much time that we weren't able to hike through the woods to Angkor Wat itself which could have been more dramatic since this is the centerpiece of the area. By the time we got to Angkor, there was not much time before closing which made a climb to the top of the temple not possible. Having done that in the past, we know that there is a wonderful view from the top. The walk along the temple wall and moat was lovely. The Lao part of the trip was the highlite! 4.5 stars.

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for the great review. We are sorry the cancelled flight meant you missed some of the places you wanted to see in Cambodia, but we are pleased that when this happened, our agent was able to pull out all the stops and get the group to Siem Reap to visit Angkor Wat and complete the programme.
