Great Organisation and Stunning Scenery
Ultimate Albania Cycling Tour

As my first cycling holiday, this Albanian trip was a great experience. Fabulous mountain ranges, some challenging climbs on roads with not much traffic were highlights for me along with the food which tasted great and lots of it. Accommodation was to a high standard and the guide and driver / mechanic were very knowledgeable and put a huge effort into making sure the group had a great holiday.

First class trip on every level
Ecuador Walking Highlights
Ecuador the land of contrasts diverse culture, amazing flowers and fauna (even at high altitudes), contrasting landscapes, altitude and of course volcanoes. The trip provides opportunities to see Ecuador at it's best providing amazing walking, riding the devil's nose train, visiting markets and the opportunity to experience a vast wealth of true Ecuadorean culture at it's best. Our guide was relaxed and a "man of the mountains" who was there for you when you needed him, but never made a fuss. Ou r group was an amazing mix of people from UK and Australia. We bonded quickly and all enjoyed our trip together with lots of "banter" laughter and "serious" games of cards at night! Our accommodation was varied providing a great contrast from city to rural. We stayed in some lovely places. Food beer and wine all very good, although can be quite basic in some places. Snacks provided on the walks and were plentiful. Tips and hints: The weather is Ecuador can be wet and a little on the colder side at times. Bring good waterproofs and change of clothes. Make sure you have dry or "sealskin" socks as you can get wet. Bring a few different changes of casual clothes for the evening - I brought mainly walking clothes "mistake". Walking poles are useful for descents and for walking on shiny slippery volcanic soil the first few days. If you can take a good camera, there are so many amazing "potential" photos which a phone camera just doesn't capture. It is a relatively cheap country so your money tends to go a long way, but take small dollar notes as never any change. A country to be re-visited and without doubt a trip to be recommended on so may levels. "Just do it!"

Wonderful holiday, roads are very cycle friendly
Ultimate Albania Cycling Tour
This was my first cycling holiday, and I really enjoyed it. The motorists in Albania are very considerate to cyclists and the roads are very quiet, so I felt very safe. The distances are easily achievable although some of the hills are quite big, the group spread out according to each individuals speed - which I really liked as I didn't feel any pressure to 'keep up' (I was in the middle of the group) and re-grouped at junctions and for tea breaks and lunch. The bikes were good and suitable for the terrain. The tour is mostly in rural areas with a few small towns and a minibus for getting out of / into Tirana which would be a busy section to cycle. The accommodation was all very good and the beds comfortable. The food was excellent, I'm a Coeliac and was catered for very well - at most meals we had shared plates and I often had an extra 'main meal' to myself if too many of the shared dishes contained gluten. The guide and mechanic/driver were excellent, really friendly and knowledgeable. The only thing I would change given there are so few flights into Tirana would be to pre-organise taxi's for people when they arrive, on our tour there were two groups of three arriving from London and Manchester (i.e. 3 on each flight) - which could easily have been 2 taxi's - but because we didn't know each other ended up being 4 (but maybe that's good for the Albanian economy)

Great Adventure and challenge.
Everest Base Camp Trek
We had a great holiday and trek to Everest Base Camp. The trip was very well organised and Milan the guide and all Sherpas were very efficient and friendly. The problems caused by the partial closure of the Kathmandu Airport runway were well addressed by KE. I had thought at the time that an alternative to the long bus journey and lost day could have been a helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla at an extra cost to each of us. However if only one of the group had not agreed to this I do under stand that it couldn’t have happened. Also I believe it would have needed 2 helicopters. All in all it was a great trip with a group of great people. Thanks to KE for the meal in a lovely restaurant in Kathmandu as a nice gesture after our long delay in Lukla. Peter Reed.

Fantastic experience with great staff and new friends made
Ecuador Walking Highlights

Very well organised providing for appropriate acclimatisation before heading over 5000m. So many outstanding experiences: being on the equator, the first sight of Cotopaxi, standing on the glacier, the Devils Nose Ride and the free day when a couple of us went rafting. Absolutely loved it and intend heading back this way sometime next year. Highly recommended!

A great Spring or Autumn escape to see lots of LIgurian coast from one centre
Footpaths of Liguria - Cinque Terre, Portofino and Porto Venere

This is a fun walking week making the most of the relatively short train connections along the coast between Genoa and La Spezia. The famous Cinque Terre villages and footpaths are fine to see but the other day walks - in Portofino, Sestri Levanti, Levanto, Port Venere etc are less touristy and if anything better. The walking is often quite steep and rugged but days are not long and the 'home' village of Moneglia and cosy family hotel make a great base.

Great Balkan Adventure
Balkan Trilogy Road Cycle Tour
We cycled the Balkan Trilogy in May and were surprised to get quite bit of rain in the first few days. So, bring foul weather outfits if you are travelling this time of year. Guide Tomi was pretty good in coming up with plans B and C to avoid showers and we still managed to cycle most of the planned mileage. Scenery was varied and beautiful, especially Bay of Kotor in Montenegro and Peljesac Peninsula. In Bosnia-Herzegovina the scars of war are still visible and there were uncleared minefields n ext to the cycle track! The hotels were excellent, especially in Kotor and Ston Mali. We had some fantastic meals and some of the best seafood ever. Croatian wine is pretty good too. Organisation was pretty slick and support vehicle was never far away. The cycling was not too challenging, most days around 60-80 km and climbing was relatively benign. My only criticism would be that there is not enough time to see old town on Korcula on the last day and that could easily be fitted in on the afternoon the day before. Also make sure you book an extra night before or after trip to see Dubrovnik, but don't book this months in advance. The room prices of Hotel Petka drop by 50% in the week before travel. All together a great Balkan adventure, highly recommended.

Very Enjoyable Trip
Footpaths of Liguria - Cinque Terre, Portofino and Porto Venere
I enjoyed this hiking trip. As was the case with my previous KE trip, the guide (Marco) was outstanding. He was friendly and informative and he had excellent knowledge of the area thanks to his degree in history as well as the fact that he is from Genoa. He likes to say that his English is bad but the truth is that his English is just fine (just some minor things here and there). He is truly a nice guy and a pleasure to be around. The walking was great. I expected walks that were not very strenu ous and I was pleasantly surprised to find that some days were a bit more strenuous than I expected. I don't know if this trip should be bumped up a grade but there are days that involve quite a bit of up and down even if the distance is a bit shorter than what I would typically do. The hotel was clean, basic, and authentic. The family that runs it were always friendly and helpful. Breakfast was as expected in Italy, Marco did a good job with the picnic lunches, and dinners were ok. We did go out for pizza one night and a smaller group went out twice. The family also owns the bar (pub) next door and we definitely made use of it! In short, I found this trip to be quite enjoyable and I would recommend it if it interests you.

Fantastic
Footpaths of Liguria - Cinque Terre, Portofino and Porto Venere
Just back from this marvellous holiday. The organisation by KE was tip top and the accommodation a very good 2* family owned hotel. The walks were tremendous but if honest more challenging than their Level 3 rating. Two days particularly heavy going. In fact I took a day off to lay on the beach and swim. I think some walkers would struggle if they expected top end of easy. The absolutely best memory was our fantastic guide Marco Moraglio. What a gentleman - so kind and nothing was to much troubl e. Would highly recommend this just get your fitness levels up first.

Beautiful walking and scenery in a friendly area
Self-Guided Walking in Las Alpujarras
We thoroughly enjoyed our walking holiday in Las Alpujarras. Because one member of the party was not able to complete the described walks, she nevertheless very much enjoyed the pretty villages, the good food and (with one exception) the excellent hotels. One member experienced a bad fall down a loose scree on day 3 using the short cut path. It is rightfully described as 'less clear' and 'difficult' and not of 'great quality'. However my friend would consider this path dangerous (the other membe r of the party used the longer route without problems). The hotel San Roque at Pitres was below standard. However, all the other hotels used were excellent and the staff at the Trevelez hotel (La Fragua) went out of their way to be helpful in locating the injured party member. The hotel in Granada is very well placed for the old town and the Al Hambra. All the villages were delightful with good places to eat and drink with plenty of interest for the non-walking member. The detailed walk on day 6 Pitres to Pampaneira was exceptionally beautiful with views up to the snow-capped Veleta mountain

KE Adventure reply

Thank you for your review. We were sorry to hear about your friend's fall and we have updated the route notes with further information about the nature of this short cut. Accommodation in Pitres is quite limited, but we are looking at alternatives following your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your walking holiday in the Las Alpujarras.

A full week of varied walking
Walking the White Mountains of Crete

With walks in the mountains, along the coast and within gorges on the south coast we experienced a good variety of terrain in 1 week. Unfortunately the Samaria gorge was closed as a result of high water levels but the necessary late changes to itinerary and accommodation were excellently managed by Jean.

A great Sicilian experience
Walking the Islands and Volcanoes of Sicily
Our trip to the volcanoes of Sicily was a delight. Firstly our guide Alesandro was a delight to be with. His knowledge of the culture of Sicily, his explanations of the workings of the different types of volcanoes, his knowledge of the best places to eat was excellent. Plus he is a really pleasant guy with great patience when things did not go quite to plan. The accommodation was lovely. For an easy walking and tourist trip it was a great experience. Seeing an active volcano erupt was high on my hit list. Stromboli did not disappoint.

Blown Away !
Walking the Islands and Volcanoes of Sicily
My first walking holiday - and so glad I chose KE. Walking the Aolean islands has been unforgettable. Each one has its own charm , and each one its own character. The highlight , for me was the trek up Stromboli . This was timed perfectly by our guide Alessandro , and also Stromboli’s own guide Giuseppe to get to the top at sundown , and then to be able to view the amazing light show in the dark ! This walk is not for the faint hearted, but when you get there the guides enthusiasm and knowledg e get your Adrenalin going and you just know you can and will do it . Half way up you are given the option to take a route back down if you wish . One group member who is 75 went all the way to the top - Respect !! Alessandro our guide for the holiday lives in Sicilily , and is extremely knowledgeable about the geology and history of the volcanoes. He took us to some great places to eat , where the Sicilian wine and food was good and very reasonably priced . His organisational skills are second to none - getting us all on and off hydrofoils, boats , and buses . His local knowledge was a godsend at times , as Sicilian boats and ferry’s do not always seem to stick to the timetables. Must be frustrating when trying to organise these trips . My tips would be - definitely take headtorch, gloves , warm hat , and a couple of fleeces. In April it can be quite chilly , especially up the volcanoes. And warming clothes for the evening too . Another tip - take travel sickness pills for the hydrofoils- I’m usually ok , but on one particularly choppy trip , many of us struggled - even the locals ! I have made some lovely friends on this trip , who I will be keeping in touch with . Some of them wee on their 5th/6th trip with KE . I’m already planning my next trip too . Well done Alessandro , and well done KE for picking him !

Great trip, spectacular sights!
Samarkand and the Silk Road
Just back from this trip and can't stop looking at my pictures because the sights were downright surreal. The hiking portion of the trip was beautiful and gave you a good dose of rural, traditional culture. I won't pretend I liked the drop toilets and lack of showers at the four home stays, but there was truth in the advertising and the experience met my expectations. That said, the hosts were warm and welcoming and we were well fed. Responsibilities on the trip were divided among two female gui des, one who specialized in the urban historic sites and another on logistical support, including mountain guides. Great concern was shown for our welfare. Overall, great trip!

Great mix of walking covering all the Island has to offer
Levada Trails and Peaks of Madeira
Very good mix of walking - the peaks and the coast as well as the Levadas. Excellent Guide in Roberto. Hotels room fine - you might need to use your head torch to read your book in bed! So good to see so much of the island. Transport links worked well. Dinners weren't exciting but OK and filled you up. But lunches were dreadful. At start of week you get salad in a container which can't cope with being in a rucksac while you're walking. Even if you decant it into the tupperware box you're asked t o bring, and later in the week when the salad gets put directly into the tupperware box, then the salads were all pretty awful taste wise. Bland and un-interesting. Also, if the weather isn't being kind the last thing you want to stop and eat is a salad. What is wrong with a decent sandwich? The Santana Hotel were the only ones who could cope with that - though I found out when I got home that they did manage to damage my lunch box - so don't bring anything that you mind being damaged. I understand you are ignoring what the guide is telling you about the lunches. please don't. He's right. When he's given dressings to put on the salads - well the container didn't make it in one piece to him - and wouldn't have coped at all in a rucksack while you walk. These lunches may be good if you are just sight seeing but if you're walking up and down hills they are worse than useless. Please do something about them

Fantastic cultural cycling trip to Iran
Exploring Iran by Bicycle
What a wonderful and rewarding destination. The history and culture and beautiful buildings are quite amazing. But most of all, the friendly welcoming reception we received from the people we met there was quite overwhelming. A special mention has to be made to our guide Tiam who was quite simply the best guide I have ever had. Not only is she a wealth of knowledge but a really lovely, enthusiastic and open person who made the trip so special. All the other guides and drivers were great as well and the Iranians couldn't do more to make you feel so welcome in their country. We also stayed in some delightful accommodation, especially the caravanserais and eco lodge.

A great trek away from the crowds.
Choquequirao to Machu Picchu
The trek was well lead by Henri & his assistant Marcella. Henri was excellent as was the pacing every day so that the group did not get split up and everyone could manage the steep hills. The logistics of the camping were well organised with the tents set up with our bags when we arrived, the tents were good quality & well sized (3 man tent for 2 people). The campsites were a variety of fields some with proper toilets and others with portable ones. The most stunning site was on old Inca Terraces overlooking the river & mountains. The food was excellent and the team of chefs achieved amazing things with a gas stove and what food they could carry. A 3 course lunch at 4,200m was also a highlight. This was the first trek of the season after the rainy season so more impacted by landslides. We had to traverse one serious landslide which was very well organised for our safety. The weather was varied a lot of people invested in poncho's to go over waterproofs as the rain can be in torrential downpours that can last a while. Thankfully after Cusco we didn't get caught out walking in one of these downpours and were able to shelter from the worst rain. The trek is through some wonderfully isolated areas with superb mountainous scenery. We met a handful of other visitors at Choquequirao which is a really impressive site, much bigger in area than Machu Pichu, but not as excavated. Until we joined the road on Day 8 we were largely on our own. Views of Machu Pichu on Day 11 were great & when we got the bus to Machu Pichu we were met with cloud, which eerily cleared to give an excellent view by 9am. We booked the extra ticket to go up Huayna Picchu which we did after the guided tour by Henri. This gave great views and a chance to escape some of the crowds. Note that it is a oneway system to tour Machu Pichu, so you cannot return to any of the ruins. On the last day we didn't get back to Cusco until 7pm (the direct train to Cusco doesn't run at this time of year) and as usual a team meal was organised for 8pm. We had booked on the Jungle extension which meant that we had 1 hour to get our washing/kit sorted out (which eventually the hotel agreed to organise), we then needed to be repacked ready for a 9am leave the next morning. We would recommend an extra day before the jungle extension or to bring enough spare clothing to avoid this rushed turnaround.

Great cycling, warm and friendly people and stunning scenery
Cape Town and the Winelands Cycle Tour
The trip itinerary was a great mix of all the areas of Cape Town and surrounding it. We had a great route which took in the many varied landscapes above and beyond what we expected. We felt totally safe throughout the trip and the people were warm and friendly everywhere we went. The guide was a great source of information on all things flora fauna and geology and had a great knowledge of the roads throughout the trip. Only thing that needed slight attention was the bikes which although adequate were obviously at the end of their season and needed a service prior to the ride. An easily achievable detail.
