Outstanding holiday trekking to Everest Base Camp
Everest Base Camp Trek
This was an exceptional trip and well organised by KE. Our head Sherpa guide, Prem was phenomenal, with a wealth of knowledge and experience. The scenery was stunning and the locals are very friendly. I would recommend KE as a tour company to anyone, their professionalism is exemplary. Would also definitely recommend to those who have not travelled much nor been on an adventure like this before, doing plenty of research and getting tips on how to pack lightly, but still have some comforts. Getti ng the right clothing & equipment - being well prepared, makes all the difference.

Demanding but highly rewarding trek
Choquequirao to Machu Picchu
Extremely well organised trek, trekking crew well up to and beyond Nepalese standards. Henri was a superb guide, ably assisted by Marcella, and was a mine of information about the culture and history of Peru and its flora and fauna, as well as setting a sensible pace that kept us together. Possibly the best food I've ever eaten on trek. Keep the Deet handy, lots of biting insects. No need for a thermarest, the mattresses provided were thick and comfortable. Don't underestimate the 1400 metre cli mb to Choquequirao on the second day, it's a hard ascent but it's good to get the toughest day done early in the trek. Overall, if you want a challenging trek, beautiful scenery, culture and lots of Inka history, this trek's for you.

Amazing
Everest Base Camp Trek
Well organised and very professionally run (our Guide from start to finish - Raj was absoultely brilliant; he and his assistants Rai, Bim and Sudeep could not have been better). Accommodation was as good as is possible on the trails and we were always well informed with the plan for the next day and the food at the teahouses was good too (not gourmet but then we didn't expect that anyway - it's all got to be carried up by Yak, horse, donkey or Sherpa!) Highly recommended - there's a lot of walki ng, some quite hard going, but then that's what you should expect on a trip like this. If you've ever thought you might like it then you will absolutely love it; completely brilliant trip. (Made extra special by my 11 companions on the trek, we all got along really well and enjoyed each others company - this bit's the luck of the draw but it helped make a good trip truly great for me.)

A super holiday in a wonderful country. Go as soon as you are able to.
Sri Lanka End to End Road Cycle Tour
I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. it was a great feeling of satisfaction cycling from North to South. Most other companies concentrate only on the hillier areas, but it was a treat to visit Jaffna too. The nicest cycling was obviously around the tea plantations and Kandy, but the longer flatter days at the beginning of the trip were rewarding too. All of the people we met en route were deligthful, and little things like stopping for fresh coconut juice towards the end of a long day were simply won derful. The hotels were a lot higher end than I had expected (I normally do trekking trips). Food was good and plenty of opportunities to sample local stuff. Little extras such as safari, climbing up the rock and visiting temples added to the trip. My only criticism is that the roads were more crowded than I had expected with lots of tuk-tuks and dogs. This was Sri Lankan New year though so that might have been why. Guides were brilliant - always one and the front and one at the back, and they kept us very safe. It is a super trip and a fantastic way to see the country. Rest day in Kandy was good - and the crumbly colonial hotel very original. The trip finished just before the tragic events, but I actually stayed longer and was out there when it happened, and they were all very concerned for my safety, even though the trip had finished. Sri Lanka will need tourists even more desperately now, so please do visit this beautiful island as soon as it is deemed safe again - you will not regret it.

Excellent Trip
Reunion Island Paradise
Reunion Island is a beautiful place. The trip itinerary is perfect to cover many areas of it. Our guide Claire was the best guide I have had on a trip to date. She was knowledgeable about the area, she shared a huge amount of information about local flora and fauna and she was passionate about the island. The accommodation during the trek was basic but good and we were well fed. The hotels at either end were good. I would say it is more expensive for meals and drinks than the UK so you need to b udget for that. The only way you could improve this trip is by adding a couple of extra days to enable a visit to the wild south to see the lava flows , lava tunnels and vanilla plantations.

Stepping out in Italy
Trails of the Amalfi Coast
Amalfi in mid-April was perhaps not quite as warm as we expected (all the locals wearing winter clothes) but a good temperature for walking apart from the day when we climbed Vesuvius and nearly froze! A great mix of walks with staggeringingly beautiful views and not too strenuous, although don't underestimate the effect on the knees of hundreds of steps. It was lovely to be based in the hills above Amalfi away from the crowds in a very rural and self-sufficient community. The array of local pro duce for the daily picnic was staggering. We hadn't appreciated that, although not far from Amalfi, the bus journey took an hour to negotiate the myriad of hairpin bends. Not for the faint hearted! A really lovely holiday.

Extraordinarily amazing introduction to the arctic circle!!
Winter Wonderland Arctic Family Adventure
From start to finish a truly eye opening experience. Hotel, food, trips and most of all the people were truly wonderful. Food-Be ready for strong flavours with plenty on the plate, as a 6'2" yeti I struggled to finish my food a number of times. Our daughter loved everything from the Reindeer stew on day 1 through to the Arctic Char at the end of the trip without doubt. There was no choice on the food as the options were spread throughout the week. Kids may struggle if picky and if so there is th e option of burger or pasta but you will need to request this. Again our 11 year old loved the food and treated it as part of the new experience of the holiday. Rooms-Warm, clean and functional with the extremely useful drying/warming cupboard that came in handy, nice warm comfy hotel very close to town should you wish a wander in. All the guides without exception were kind, polite and extremely knowledgeable with the outstanding parts being the snowmobiling and most of all the dog sledding where we were fortunate to be on our own with Dana and 11 dogs which was the absolute highlight (being dog mad helped) and we are now planning to go back in a few years time to go on a full on dog sledding expedition.

A terrific tropical trekking holiday
Reunion Island Paradise
La Réunion is an amazing island in the middle of the Indian Ocean....and offers wonderful trekking. The landscape changes from lush, forested valleys to waterfalls to barren volcanic wastes....and there's the beach - swimming, snorkelling, dolphin cruises etc etc - at the end. The trek was very well planned: after an initial night in a hotel in the capital, we had 3 days trekking and 2 nights of 'Gîte' - a kind of 'refuge', basic but comfortable and with hearty food. (If you happen to like rum , this is a trip for you - each meal began with a rum punch, finished with a 'rhum arrangé', basically rum flavoured with all sorts of fruit and herbs. Alongside the local beer Dodo, every meal was an event!). Then a rest day in Cilaos for chilling (we were soooo lucky, as there was a huge thunderstorm that day. Loudest thunder I've ever heard in my life. We were told that 1661 bolts of lightning were registered on La Réunion on that day!). Then another 4 days trekking and 3 nights Gîte. These were the real highlights - climbing Piton des Neiges, the highest peak in the Indian Ocean (3070m), to watch the sunrise; walking through the forest to the astounding waterfall in the Trou de Fer; then climbing one of the most active volcanoes in the world, the Piton de la Fournaise. Nothing prepares you for the stark lava landscape, the craters, the lava tubes, the extraordinary colours. The last 2 nights were back on the coast ...so, pool, Indian Ocean, snorkelling, lovely restaurants with live music (Café Metis in Ermitage-les-Bains superb). We also did a helicopter flight with Hélilagon, which was stunning, but you have to be lucky with the clouds - the weather can change in an instant in the island!). Tips: - wax earplugs are an absolute must, given the dormitory style of sleeping and the inevitable snorers. - meals in hotels/restaurants are expensive, as indicated in the trip notes. But the inclusive food at the gîtes was very good. Only the breakfasts are poor - a baguette, butter and jam, and coffee. Not ideal for a strenuous trek. High calorie snacks are a good idea....and fruit/veg if possible from a local supermarket. - water was not a problem. The tap water could be drunk safely. I took purification tablets and hardly used them at all. Hydration was key, given the high humidity levels. - the Pass the Pigs game proved hugely popular and really bonded the group. I can't explain how happy our Guide Claire was, when she won! - if you want a few souvenirs, look no further than the Grand Marché in St Denis (on the first day......but you can get some in Cilaos as well). It is a huge bazaar of artisan goods...and very good value. We had a super group of Trekkers - very experienced indeed - and an excellent guide, Claire Balada, which meant that the whole trip was harmonious and full of high spirits.

BRILLIANT
Everest Panorama Trek

This trek was a big deal for me; something that I had always wanted to do, and as an older, somewhat apprehensive trekker I found KE to be patient, understanding and with no question too daft for them to address. The trek fulfilled all my expectations with regard to arrangements (great response when the airline ran into financial chaos), and the Guide and Porters were great....The pace of the trek was spot on, and the natural world laid on the rest.... I would not hesitate to book again with KE

Great itinerary and amazing extras - cheetah, leopard, baby hippo &Maasai poker!
Kenyan Wildlife Wonders - Family Safari Adventure
For 13 days we woke up to a different and amazing experience everyday. This itinerary covers the best of East Africa., it was relaxed (Hakuna Matata), easy going (Pole, Pole) but at the same time packed in so many wonderful experiences. The highlights were spending time with the Maasai (tasting their delicious food, meeting the large families, beating them at Maasia Poker and learning about their culture); the Wild Camp (where else can you have donuts for breakfast looking out at Kilimanjaro and have zebra and giraffe walk through your camp?); visiting the children’s home and listening to the inspirational stories of the children as they proudly showed us their farm, bio-mass boiler and school; the fabulous game drives (spotting cheetah, leopard, a newly born hippo, elephants, many types of gazelle, water buffalo, and lots more) .... and finally, Zanzibar a perfect, tropical oasis, with stunning white beaches and extraordinarily friendly locals. Whilst the trip notes suggest that there is quite a bit of driving- there is so much to see, it passes in a flash; the accommodation is comfortable (Nairobi and Loitokitok) to superb (Tsavo West, wild camping and Zanzibar).... as for the Maasai hut...hmmm...let’s just say that it was an experience!

All tied in perfectly, only the weather had a bit of a hand in slight disruption
Annapurna and Bandipur Luxury Lodge Trek
All the pick-ups and meetings by the local transport and personnel went like clockwork. Brilliant! The weather was the only midge (smaller than a fly) in the ointment. Our flight to Pokhara got delayed by a day due to fog and would have been more but we opted to drive on the second day arriving at Biretanthi lodge one day late. From here everything ran smoothly. Unfortunately we didn't get all the spectacular views, which is a risk you take in the pre-monsoon season, but we did get some superb v iews. Absolutely super trip with nearly 2000 photos in the camera. The Chitwan extension exceeded expectations and added a huge number to the aforementioned photos. If you don't like walking up steps all day, which vary in height and depth, which I don't, you'll find it hard going because you can't get a pace and rhythm. 1000 metres up to Ghandruk on our first day with steps most of the way. I was the slowest in the group but the guide and one of the porters stayed with me all the time.

A fabulous tour of Jordan with a wonderful guide
Bike Jordan Dead 2 Red
This trip is a great blend of opportunities to see the top historic sites in Jordan, a surreal float in the Dead Sea and a fine mix of on and off road biking. I loved the homestay, bringing in the sheep and goats for the night is unmissable. The last night in the desert at Wadi Rum and ride out on a back route which is barely even a jeep track is really special. Anas our local guide was really attentive to detail, doing his best to keep everyone happy, even when occasionally things didn't quite go to plan - expect the unexpected. And despite it being April we had all sorts of weather so come prepared for a variety of temperatures and conditions. I was glad to have added on 3 days at the start to see Roman sites and the capital city Amman. Others on the trip added some Red Sea R&R at the end, also a great idea.

Couldn't have asked for more
Bike Jordan Dead 2 Red
This cycle was definitely a challenge, particularly as I have never mountain biked before and simply an amateur UK road cyclist. But it was well worth the effort as Jordan is an amazing country and seeing it off the beaten track was much more rewarding than a coach tour. The landscapes, sites, food and, most of all, the people made this trip so incredible for me. Anas and the team were so supportive and I couldn't have done it without them or asked for more. Part of me almost wants to do it agai n (when I'm a bit fitter!) because it was such a wonderful experience. It should be said, however, that as this tour is booked with companies from other countries, English may not be everyone's first language and like any group tour, there's a risk that people within the group may not be on the same page. That said, the team is great at accommodating the various skill levels and creating a comfortable environment for everyone. This trip has truly had a positive impact on me.

Awesome, amazing, challenging, great scenery, lots of laughs, very well lead
The Ultimate Everest Trek
This was a "once in a lifetime" trip for my 65th birthday. Reaching this age meant that long-held ambitions just had to be sorted while I could. Just looking at the brochures from a couple of recommended companies was one thing, but wandering into the KE office one dark December morning and talking to Vanessa fired my enthusiasm. So I booked on the "Ultimate" trip to see a bit more on a circular route and also so I wouldn't feel as though I had missed a lot once I returned. Pre-trip information and booking was good and easy to follow. New kit was bought but the question remained, would I be fit enough ? On arrival our guide, Phurba, saw that getting from arrivals was smooth and I was pleased to find our group of 5, all of similar ages and experience, got on well instantly. Bob and Jan had flown in from India but Mark and son Andy only arrived really late but were still accommodated by the guide and hotel). The first night was comfortable in the Shankar hotel. Progress through to the flight to Lukla (AMAZING experience!) went smoothly despite the rescheduled itinerary. Initial trekking was straightforward but so interesting in Alpine scenery. The early Lodges were good and a gentle introduction into the cold sleeping arrangements, variable water supplies and sanitary conditions found later. Acclimatisation stops were also essential and a good chance to look deeper into the local facilities (who would guess we would find such superb Apple Pie in Macchermo !). The Down kit provided by KE started to come into its own above here as the temperatures dropped in the unseasonably wintery conditions. Gokyo resembled the bleak South Georgia Whaling station under snow and ice as we arrived, but the early morning slow tramp up Gokyo Ri was rewarded with the most spectacular views. What an incredible but lung-bursting experience ! The lodges and facilities became even more basic from here as we entered the hardest, longest days of the trek. The Cho La pass was epic and with soft snow on boulders and loose rocks was quite demanding. Probably better crampons would have helped. The pathway through the soft snow was precarious alone. But absolutely magnificent in the sunshine. Joining the main basecamp trail up to Lebouche made us realise how busy that was (said with a smug sense of satisfaction !). From there it was another rocky climb amongst the Sherpas and Yak trains plus other trekkers (going both ways) to Gorak Shep, then onto Basecamp. This would have been the highlight except for Bob who had been struggling with a heavy cold. Thankfully we had additional Guides to help him back to the Lodge. Looking over the site and surrounding mountains all brought the whole picture to life, with Phurba explaining how it all worked. The weather turned as we came back but that seemed to add to the atmosphere of the trek. Next day's trip up Kala Pattar was cut short by the early bad weather but thankfully, Bob (with Jan) made it to basecamp together. The views were still terrific. The revised schedule meant we had 3 long days to come down to Lukla, but that didn't matter: we saw new sights (Ama Dablam from all angles is magnificent) but had achieved our goals. Even in cloudy weather, the occasional view of the mountains peeking through was stunning. On return we could only be most thankful for our assistant guides, Pasang and Nima plus the Porters who had carried our kit with such smiles. We deserved our first cans of Sherpa beer that night! Return to Kathmandu started with the excitement of the flight from Lukla then the bus through the countryside into the extensive suburbs of Kathmadu. We enjoyed the hospitality of the excellent Shankar hotel before saying a final thankyou to Phurba. He had been brilliant. Not only guiding us but informing us of the features and culture of the mountains and Sherpa people, as well as caring for our well-being (oxygen levels, health etc.) plus all the organising (and reorganising) required. What a guy. Would I recommend it - YES ! The journey is amazing, the people great and experience out of this world. But you must be prepared for very basic lodge conditions, especially washing & sanitary arrangements. Good boots are essential. And yes, despite the effects of altitude (sleeplessness, headache, thin air) I was fit enough and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

Dream come true
Everest Base Camp Trek
Trekking trip to Himalayas was always my dream destination, and April proved to be an amazing time to visit Nepal. I was nervous about long trip at first, especially that I have never traveled on my own that far, but first out of the Kathmandu airport I was welcomed by Sherpa Prem, who was a leader of my trip. Prem and his two assistants - Saroj and Kalem, were looking after us along the trek, and I can't imagine more attentive, warm, welcoming, and helpful team. Guiding the group, assisting wit h meals and lodges arrangement, and genuinely caring for everyone to have the best experience during the trek. Prior to the trip I have contacted KE office several times and every time chat was informative and helpful, so I felt well prepared for my journey. I also appreciate time planned to acclimatise - I believe this was essential for the group to become comfortable with the altitude, and as result, helped us to reach our basecamp destination. Overall the trip was everything I expected and more - views are breathtaking, experience unforgettable, people kind... so just to warn everyone - really hard to come back to reality after 3 weeks of such life changing experience!

A great adventure with beautiful landscapes and a sense of achievement to trek i
Jordan's Dana to Petra Trek

Petra is rightfully a 7 World Wonder but has really changed. It is a crazy environment with tourists, horse and carts, camels, horses and donkeys competing for space around the site. Petra is huge and best taken in small chunks over a few days.

Walking in Portugal
Timeless Trails of Portugal's Algarve
The highlight of this trip - as noted by other travellers - were the hosts and accommodation. Jonny and Violetta are extremely warm, hospitable and friendly and went out of their way to make guests at home. Jonny was great company as he guided us on the walks and Violetta's food was extremely good and very generously portioned!! The setting on the farm is beautiful and tranquil and there is some lovely coastline in the area. The walking itself is probably closer to a Grade 3 (which wasn't an iss ue for me as I just wanted a nice break away) and was pleasant. The coast line and cliff-top walks were my favourite. Jonny was flexible with the walks and was able to suggest longer routes for those that wanted to extend the day's walking. It is probably worth highlighting the dogs and cats on-site. The dogs are all very friendly and for me, as a big dog lover, this was a big bonus on the trip. Thank you for a lovely holiday

Sunshine, great hikes, super tour leader
Trails of the Amalfi Coast

Extremely enjoyable week spent in and around Amalfi Carlotta, the tour guide, was absolutely sensational. Great knowledge about flora, fauna, history, politics, geography - an absolute fountain of knowledge Only slight downer was the hotel. Not for the first have I come across a hotel which believes that 'single supplement' paying customers should be allocated a small dingy room.

harder than expected
Jordan's Dana to Petra Trek
I think the KE difficulty rating for this holiday was optimistic - I should put it a couple of notches higher as there was some quite difficult terrain. It was a shame that there were only stools to sit on in the tents, so no backrests for a week. OK if you're twenty, but not at the other end of the age range. Some director's style chairs would have been as easy to transport and would have made a big difference to the comfort factor. Big disappointment was the final hotel at the end of the trek - unlike other hotels in Wadi Musa this was a DRY hotel, just what we didn't need after a week's trek!
